the 1, 2 3 steps are there to make it easy for you, it clearly says you shall turn off your phone, remove the battery and wait for xx seconds and then putt it all back together. hold the back button and plug in the usb. in short. just read the instructions, they explains everything as easy as it can get.
Try again!

@Ravager - why do you think I am from England? I live in England...
@SKIBBE yes, I have followed those steps and the computer just locks up, after step 3, holding the back button down..
This has happened 4 times now..
rebooted yet again and will try.
If no good, I will try from another PC later.

Ok, sorry.
There's no PC-companion or SEUS for mac...
only mediasync works on OSX
About the lock up, try to find the latest drivers on www.sonyericsson.com

thanks rikken,
I will try that. It seemed on first search that parallel running of Windows was the way to go.
I will do some searching, and if no luck, will borrow another Windows PC.
@ravager, what drivers do you mean? USB drivers?
edit... The Sony Ericsson site says the latest usb drivers are included in Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0
I am using that one.

@Ofiaich try using SEUS instead of PC Companion. PC companion sucks as far as updating FW goes.

Is there a new firmware version rolled out for the x10? My phone tells me there is a new update but I have to use a PC. I'm currently on android 2.1 update 1 with build no 2.0.A.0.504 |

You'r firmware is the first release of 2.1
There was second on 22th December, and in a few days there is expected even newer update bringing Multitouch to X10.
So yes, i'm pretty sure You will be updated when connected to PC |

22nd December was 2.0.2.A.0.24. Baseband was changed to 2.0.49 and the onscreen keyboard improved by the keys being made slightly larger.
The strange thing is. My black sim free uk model X10 will not update to 2.0.2.A.0.24. Everytime I check I get told I have the latest firmware. However, my white sim free Uk/french X10 was able to update to it.

After installing the MT(dual touch) update i have been trying to play some new games to try it out
but Dual Touch is very limited, and does not work good at all IMO.
Nesoid/snesoid is still not playable.
Played some Dungen Hunter (but i don't think the x10i version even suports MT)
Tried some 2 player Air Hockey (unplayable)
Doodle Dash is somewhat more easy to play now with dual touch (there are only 2 buttons in this game)
Angry Birds have the pinch zoom function now(don't know if that makes life easier..)
Pinch Zoom is about all that works good
Everyone has wanted this but what does it really add to the phone? it's sounds better than single touch but
you cant use it for anything more than pinch zoom?
But The best thing is that SE did what they could and listened to the demands of the comunity
wish they did that when it comes to new android versions.

Pinch zoom has been useful for me. It does add to the experience a lot in my opinion. As for the games, I was never going to play a lot of games that may require this sort of thing. The most intense game I play is Angry Birds to which pinch zoom is great
On another note I just installed a sterile gingerbread ROM on my X10. Feels like 2.1 with makeup on so far but only really played on it for 5 minutes. Not even set it up the way I like it yet.
