whatever they do with mid-tier, i think there should be clear high-end phone that has the best of Sony in it. If they make most of their money off mid-tier, that's fine. but the reason I only suggested one instead of 2 or 3, is because it spreads out resources that could be focused on one device. a general user won't really care about anything other than price, so nuances between the two or three mid-tier models aren't really relevant. I also think the more models the more confusion. Hell, I would consider myself a die hard sony fan, and even I get confused on which model is which!

Sony is doing one flagship a year? I hope so. They have too many models, I think. I'm sure there are many who think that it's good to have a lot of models for different needs of different people, but all it does is spread out resources and confuse the general consumer. I'd love to see Sony adopt a 3 model per year rule. 1 flagship with everything, 1 mid-tier, and 1 entry level.
We are blessed here with such kind of die hard Sony fans. I think we shouldn't have expect from Sony to force this "we are the best" strategy. Because this is the message that Sony sends, but I think it would be more important to prove it instead of talking about it. With just few devices Sony would have less occasion for success or failure -I mean, with more devices they have more chance that some of them to be successful.
Do you think with less devices they would have invested more resources in the T or Z? I don't think so.
And what if in the last 9 months just a more perfect T and Z would have been released? I think many Xperia owners (who have inferior models) in this case also wouldn't have bought the T or the Z, because of it's price, or because they don't need such a high-end model, because of the size, the weight, or simply that certain model doesn't match one's taste. And come on! if even chinese manufacturers have enough resources to develop a bunch of models, than why Sony wouldn't have?
"A general user won't really care about anything other than price, so nuances between the two or three mid-tier models aren't really relevant." The nuances in this case are really relevant in my opinion. The die hard Sony fanboy, will buy THE high end model, without paying attention to the price, design, specifications, then if he/she isn't satisfied with that model, then is struggling to explain himself that it's still a capable, good looking phone, and it worth to buy it, and is waiting the next high-end with all the hopes, dreams.
Who buys the mid-tier, it is most likely the considered consumer, who tries to take the rational decision. Cares about the design, specification, price, price/value ratio. So in this category should be payed much more attention by Sony in my opinion, to create competitive models, with the right variety of specifications, design, size and price.
In the last 9 months -as you wished- we have only the E as entry level. It is nearly on par with the almost 3 years old X8, but priced relatively high, even if it's the cheapest Xperia now -but it's Sony, not crappy SonyEricsson, like the X8 was. I think the entry-level buyer cares just about the price, but for the price of (the single entry level Xperia) E could be bought many better models from competitors, or some quite similar ones for lower price. |

@puestadeisol: i would respond to all of your "points," but there's no point to argue about something off-topic, opinion based, and ultimately doesn't matter in the grand scheme of how Sony will do business.
I was just expressing my opinion as a Sony fan.
Anyway..
CZ? did you just make that up vikeviki? we've been referring to honami as i1 for awhile now..
