Hear hear! For a start, it looks pretentious when people are constantly wearing their headsets but never seem to get any calls. As it is i very rarely use any type of headset anyway... there's no need for it, in my situation.
The Vodashop? commercial which i've noticed on tv emphasizes this, i think. There's this middle-aged chap being taken by his yuppy colleague to a Vodashop... Next thing you know, he's in an elevator, fiddling away on his phone, telling the girl next to
him that's he's activating his "blueteeth" Priceless... but also symptomatic of the majority of our population. How many cellular users actually know the effective range of their headsets? Or know of the dangers inherent to leaving Bluetooth activated on their top-of-the-range-must-have-it-gotta-outdo-the-Joneses/Mncingis-syndrome Symbian models? Not many, i'd warrant... Currently the next best thing to sliced bread is wireless. But do they know what it is? Nope, but if the media says its THE in-thing, i've gotta have it at all costs...

Glad to see the Boks won the rugby second time round, thanks to the drop-goals tactics in particular. They weren't at all spectacular in that first half an hour though, but a win is a win.. @ jmash, thanks bhuti. It was on the 23rd. How's the 'settling in' to your own house going?

@ wanqa, lol! When i read about the bluetooth headset i wanted to bring up the point you went straight into, but you beat me to it:) it does look retarded, and the first time i ever noticed how much was when a friend of mine walked past a place i was waitering at. I thought she has never looked so dumb. Since then i have been toxic towards the bluetooth thing, but for driving it does make sense. I like hiding my handsfree kit in what i am wearing, and it looks fine. It might look dodgy when i talk to myself though, but people look for wires when you do. Also, i am highly aware of the dangers of bluetooth so i never leave mine on beyond usage. When i am done, the bluetooth goes off.

In the middle of quoting da wanqsta I forgot to add my post. Basically I shared the sentiments...wearing a headset in public looks totally retarded especially the ones made by Nokia and Motorola...the and Samsung make way better ones- designwise.

I think it's even more sad ('sad' is such a fitting Pom colloquilism) when people wear BT headsets to social gatherings/ parties etc. I mean, come on..get a life, get out more and it might just help to stop trying to appear so desperately 'with it'.
I'm busy watching the cricket happening in CT at the mo; thank goodness for Kemp's fantastic blitz on the bowlers.
Trying to not let the TV distract me too much... I've got loads of schoolwork to get through.
BTW, it was quite funny seeing Shane Warne throwing his toys out the cot and getting so the moer-in with Kevin Pietersen during first Ashes test, who smacked numerous 4's off his bowling, that the frustrated spin bowler deliberately threw the ball at KP, which he just evaded, and then gave Warne a piece of his own mind. The Poms are still gonna need a miracle to save this first Ashes test though...

@da wanqsta: KP seems to revel putting his foot in his mouth. Seems like every opportunity he gets he slates South Africa and Graeme Smith.
Deep down I think he still loves South Africa and needs to justify his treacherous act at every opportunity even blaming a "quota system" when, at the time, he was an ordinary cricketer who didn't show any promise.
Final word from Graeme Smith:
Quote:
| "If he had kept his mouth shut he would have had far fewer people angry at him and he would have taken far less flak," Smith said. |
|
BTW, South Africa crushed Indian again...seems like it's going to be a boring summer.

Yeah, I was fortunately able to watch most of the match.
I'm not defending Pietersen's rantings at all, least of all on the amount of blame he attributes to the quota system, but Smith is also no stranger to further instigating things or making controversial statements either. He had his fair share during the series with Oz and the World XI v/s Australia matches.
I think KP might've shown 'some' promise back then, but it seems clearly not enough to make it to the top levels during that time.
A quote from The Beeb prior to the Champions' Trophy:
' Smith was his country's youngest ever captain at 22. He has no time for whingers, particularly Kevin Pietersen, of whom he said: "I'm patriotic about my country, and that's why I don't like Kevin Pietersen." The respect is mutual, with Pietersen calling Smith an "absolute muppet". '

I agree, it's bad enough when they've gotta wear those weevils stuck to their ears during the daytime, but downright pathetic when they wear them to parties. I used to miscall those weevil-wearing-folks at parties (with my number concealed, of course) just to watch them spastically tapping their headsets when the call would die before they could start a conversation.

Some Nigerian sleep with their BT headsets. Its some kind of status symbol for some yuppies. What surprises me is someone who works with MTN Nigeria struting about with it.
Please is this info at wikipedia correct? It gives these figures for the SA networks:
1 Vodacom 20.4m (June 2006)
2 MTN 11.16m (September 2006)
3 Cell C 2.7m

@ Coola, that info seems around about what I have heard every time when subscribers are being compared. Voda did cut off about 2 million recently, so I am not sure if that number is subtracted and all.
I don't think I have ever been to a party where people wore a BT headset...That would be social suicide, even amongst drugged out dopies...(No, the weed is for the cool people, and everyone is cool...except for you...
I think it is just cooler to talk on the phone whenever you can. What the fcuk is your hands going to be busy doing at a party that will cause a problem holding a phone long enough to have a quick conversation. If you are going to be at a party and on the phone, why the heck did you go to the party.
So if they can fit a BT headset into an earring it might become acceptable. Other than that, no....
Oh, quick question: what is that little music application that comes with the W810i? No, not the MusicDJ thing, it is an application in the application folder. Saw it on a friends phone last night. It gives you chords and stuff for guitar, keyboard and all. Any idea where i can get it?

@coola: Those figures are unverified...many of those connections might not be active, I for one have extra MTN and Vodacom simcards which I've not used in months.
