Your misreading thngs Bono when he says 1st, 2nd, 3rd he means the blind comparison test shot numbers as S5 was the camera taking number 2's pictures, he's not saying the Z2 was better.

@miromiromi:
Thanks for the heads up.
Good to see that the Z2 did better at low light than the S5 and especially the HTC One.
Galaxy S4 (S600)
Looking forward to the Sony Xperia Z4 (or 5)

could it be the f 2.0 lens? It looks like Z1 and Z2 camera just doesn't know where to focus. Its almost as if they are trying to take micro shots all the time.

I really wanted the Z2 as my next phone but the camera is crap AGAIN!! Always the same from Sony! I still think the S4 was better than the Z1, if you zoom in even slightly on pics taken by the Z1 and look at text most of the time it's unreadable, whereas on the S4 it's much more readable, the heavy compression ruins pictures on the Z1 and it seems as if that's something that still happens on the Z2 along with other issues.

I'm swaying towards and S5, I'd have a 1020 in a heartbeat if it didn't run Windows but as it does it's not really an option for me, the only other options are the 5S (I don't like small screen or iOS much so that's a no go) so I'm only really left with the S5.

yeah, the 2 problem remain for Z1/2 camera is compression and auto focus. If next Android brings RAW support, or new Camera update brings RAW support then we have 50% of the problem solved. I would bank on google adding RAW than Sony updating the camera, and it will come to Z2 as part of the new android update if we ever get there. All the stuffs that ZOMG mentioned never even shows up after so many FW update. pretty much tells me I should give up hope now. Its like Sony just want Z1/2 to be a dummy proof point and shoot camera with minimal manual control even though they fail at their software. Thought if I have to choose I would still get the Z2 lol.

The iPhone 6 will take care of the screen thing and iOS is becoming very mature overall. I used to avoid them up until iOS 7 , but now they are up to the task me thinks.

WP 8.1 seems very good as well.

It will all come down to the cam in the end.. all current OS types pretty much do the same thing in a slightly different way.

The forthcoming Nokia Lumia 930 look's very tempting, never thought I would consider a Nokia Windows phone BUT Sony have dropped the ball on mobile devices.

I still get the impression Sony deliberately make sure there camera phones dont steal sales from there budget digital camera devision.

I was thinking Z1 Compact but all the threads from annoyed owners & Sony's lack of customer care over on the official Sony mobile forum has been enough to put me of buying another Sony handset.

Or perhaps, ZOMG was wrong and no such improvements were ever slated for the Z1. Or the updates were cancelled.

Sony mobile is probably under pressure from the imaging arm not to improve the camera too much, as it might potentially hurt whatever sales are left in the P&S side of things.

I don't think RAW support will change much, other companies don't use it, apple or samsung and their compression looks better sometimes than the sony's.

As for focus, not sure how much sony can fix with software but hopefully something can be done.

Now that the Z2 is out of the question, it's either the S5 or the 1020 for me as camera is a very important feature plus I'll be using it for me holiday in a couple of months.

I wish the S5 had lossless zoom like the 1020, I have to say though that I'm not a big fan of windows at all as I use a lot of apps, quite a few aren't on the windows store otherwise it wouldn't be such a problem and the shot to shot times on the 1020 are poor which isn't good really.

I was expecting the Z2 to be a lot better but then again Sony haven't made a good camera phone for years now!

So I'm really torn.

You already posted a striking similar comment on this same page and you already answered yourself saying S5...
Well go for it... I'd choose it, without a doubt, over the 1020! IMHO better OS and that alone justify the decision IMHO...
