@doministry

If you could let us know what the capacitive buttons are like, as many of the reviews I have read keep picking up on how unresponsive they can be. Also, can you comment if there is a slight rattling of the back cover.

That's not a delay and nothing still reported officially. devices using Nova 9600 where originally targeted for early 2013, ST-Ericsson (not ST; though owned by the same main corporation), stated end of 2012 units will be shipping to vendors: that's manufacturers of smartphones/tablets to imbedd them within their substrate as part of my original post with links.

BTW, your article is dated 10/7/2011.

^Nova A9600 will not be ready by 1Q next year so we will not see a device with this in it. For the Nova A9500, we might see a device with it at the end of the year. I think it is not really because of cost cutting reason why Sony has not released a smartphone with one of those SOCs but because of them availability.

Though one thing is for sure, Sony is going to released a smartphone next year with quad-core Snapdragon S4.

ST-Ericsson press @MWC sad SoC L9600 (A9600 Nova processor + M74xx Thor modem) sampled to vendors in H2 2012. It was showed in roadmap with newest L8540 chip.

But I can agree Sony will use Qualcomm S4 for flagships and NovaThor (maybe L8540) for mid and low range devices.

you do realize the 9600 is on ARM Cortex A15 architecture, vs S4 that is loosely based on it, right? We'll see which is better down the road with various implementations. The Qualcomm Krait seems to be the main focus of this article.

Oh man ... BRING IT! I cannot wait for your review and first intakes. Can we also have a full weekend burn-down on battery life under heavy use please?!

Hello again.

Sorry for not answering sooner, but I dont have time for pretty much anything.

I have been with the Xperia S for nearly a week now (Birthday Present), and I still havent got time to try even half of it.

I will just post a short list of positive and negative things to consider before buying.

POSITIVE:

Nice desing, I love the cristal antena.
LED's notification and the cristal bar. (Both works as notifications light's)
Awesome Screen. (The best in the market right now.)
    Very fast browser.
Good sound quality (mp3, mp4, video).
Nice UI. (I can't wait to get ICS with Sony's UI)
Battery last more than 48 hours with light use. 24hours with heavy use. (Estimated)
Fast charge mode. In one hour, its fully charged.

NEGATIVE:

The plastic flaps covering the HDMI and the USB conector. (at the end, I am sure they will be broken)
The capacitive buttons. They work fine, but they are hard to find. I guess you have to get use to them.
The 4.3" LCD screen doesnt have Gorilla Glass (Or any kind of protection).
No ICS at launch. (I hope they dont take too long for the update).

POSITIVE:

Yes definitely will check the batt life too. Planning to fiddle more with the device around Sat/Sun.

Got it!

So:

1. Nice surprise. Leather carry pouch and screen protector included.

2. Looks great and it's well built. Feels less plasticky than Arc. Back covers is removable in a great way.

3. Screen is great too, just so much more refined than - already great - Arc.

4. New widgets are nice, however they removed the batt indicator from the tools widget.
So you don't know the batt percentage uless you go to settings, or I just can't find it.

5. The capactive buttons: basically I like physical ones so it's already a step back.
But they are ok, they just need a certain amount of pressure. What is actually good! Because there is no way you can press them accidentally.
They are definitely working well, more like hardware ones.

6. Internal memory - still visible as separate - is around 1,8 MB.
Whole available RAM is around 620 MB, so now about 370MB free.

7. Ui looks great, more matt than glossy on Arc. There is quickdial.

8. Camera is fast, the UI still good but I'm just used to Arc. But it's still ergonomic.

I have to test still things like calling, internet and photo. Don't have that much of a free time now.

Oh and one more thing, this one pisses me of or I can't get it:

After calendar sync I see only events back in Feb. Everything older is not present. What is a problem since I have events back in May 2011 which I need.
