Ok don't everyone gang up on me at once.
I love UIQ's potential. However for SOO many years as a platform its just been that ... potential.
SE has been the ONLY manufacturer keeping it alive for the past 3 yrs until Motorola finally made their Sendo acquisition fruitful with the z8 & the upcoming Z10. SE has NOT pushed the envelop in widening marketshare of UIQ3 phones nor have they pushed development of that hardware that uses it. P990 beautiful styling but it had issues as we all know. P1i is a step in the right direction ... but I'm made that SE used the M600 as a "feeler" to get used to the keyboard. If the P990i's successor doesn't give us HSPA and the other technology's to compare with the N95 - albeit in a more efficient, faster & stylish way of using those features then the masses will just see it as another back burner project.
Hear me out ....
* SE by end of year will have delivered 4 UIQ phones (M600, P1i, W960, P990) for a full fiscal year - well 3 really.
* Nokia have PROVEN that market penetration & sales of large offerings of Symbian OS based phones (S60) is selling and appealing to a larger audience.
* Motorola has heightened the interest in UIQ3 and what it can offer with partnerships that offer benefits to the END user & cellular provider and TV streaming service & catalog company.
* SE's high END phone IS their flagship. However it doesn't "deliver" the statement that SE is aware of technologies that their flagship purchasers - that SHOULD be targeted - wish to use. A flagship shows what the companies BEST Research & Development is capable of and what their top brass would be PROUD to use first hand. It is supposed to SIGNIFY performance, elegance, and craftmanship that the brand has to offer to the masses ... showing a glimpse of what is available in their entire lineup - at a taste in the low end and a subtle lingering for the mid-range.
* SE recently has been rumored to develop & release a WM Smartphone/Professional OS based phone.
* SE just recently sold 50% of their "RECENTLY" acquired UIQ business. Motorola has a HISTORY of dancing around various mobile OS' (JUIX evolved into another Linux+Java OS, Windows Mobile, and now UIQ once again after a 4 yr hiadus)! If SE finally delivers a WM phone Motorola will feel cheated and also threatened (they just delivered Moto Q9h worldwide) and cause issues for SE if they wish to further advance that UIQ platform for future handsets.
I LOVE the W960i in design ...I'm just bothered that its the best that SE will offer with UIQ3. I'm bothered its not GSM/EDGE QuadBand so that I may use it effectively in the larger outskirts of Toronto here in North America - this would APPEAL to a larger market for sales. It almost seems that on PURPOSE SE ignores markets outside of Europe & Asia.
K850i and the W910i would have been PERFECT to implement UIQ3 non-TS. Put a faster cpu and the possibilities of more complex and feature set 3rd party applications like TV Streaming over 3.5G (Triband world) would have been ASTOUNDING. Sure supply issues would occur right now but it would improve revenue for the next 3 qtr's to come. W910i with its larger than normal screen would have been perfect ... and quite frankly its perfect to compete with Nokia's recently announced N81 for gaming ... but no UIQ3 and thus no more focused games.
Delivering more phones with UIQ3 would have netted a larger return on investment for SE's purchase & sustained 50% ownership of UIQ3. This would allow MORE development for applications which returns in larger sales of handsets made by them & by Motorola's new found interest in UIQ3. They can team with Motorola in developments and advancing UIQ3/4 and take advantage of partnerships like "SKY" and increase marketshare.
This took Nokia a LONG time ... and it finally paid off with shrewed marketing , handset presence, and new expanded product line using S60. And has anyone noticed that in the past year Nokia has NOT ONCE released a brand recognition advertisement in established markets? not ONE! THey did however increase Revenues, Profits, marketshare worldwide ALL in one qtr!
I want the same for SE but new challenges for the smartphone space will make revenue's scarce in the next 3qtr beginning scarcity. Blackberry is STILL growing and laugh all you want but he Apple iPhone IS a smartphone and with the SDK being released in February for 3rd party apps and a new hardware around that time we'll see more competition. Just remember Apple is the ONLY computer hardware manufacturer that has NO DEBT to date! NONE!
I want SE to increase its use if UIQ3 - and focus on helping other licensee's to port applications over and the small guy with a great idea to license their apps and code apps for their phones. this is good for EVERYBODY including SE.

Who do you trust on release dates? Amazon or SE? Hmm let me think now....It's December 7th not 12th November......sadly.

The w960i has just been approved by the FCC
link:

Could this mean that the W960i will be coming out sooner...as if its just been approved that means they are not aloud to change anything as that will be the one they will be selling!
Plus we need a new announcment! heh
Cmon W960i! Im waiting for a November release! |

On the page of the fcc approval there is a pic with the battery out.
Can anyone make out which battery is? the same one used in P1? Coz in eldar review it was the BST-33. Thanks.
Come back for good |

I think W960i will be exactly as we know yet (except the stylus).

@Darth Sith
do you mean the stylus won't be plastic?

Exactly.
In an early video on youtube, I have seen the same stylus, but it was transparent. Very very useful and cool. |
