Thanks brym! I know about postpaid (I have a postpaid line). But what I'm asking about is PREPAID. The info on that 3G tariff page gives the impression that PREPAID are charged those same 20-35k per kb.

I was at Glo HQ today and can confirm that for now 3G services are only available for postpaid subscribers. And to use any of the packages you are required to pay a security deposit which is about 100 % of the monthly charges.

Okay guys, Glo 3G is alive and running. I had my line activated yesterday and was able to browse late last night. I have a post up at First time browsing on Glo 3G.

This morning, I have run more detailed tests, and I will be putting up a follow-up article with screen-shots and details of which settings work (its all official, so no problem going public with it).

Please go through the articles and let me know if you have any questions or any tests you'd love for me to run. I have the P990 for only another 48 hours and then its off to the new owner.

You may also be interested in my other article, GSM Customer Care Officers: When Ignorance is Bliss, which essentially explains why customer care officers say one thing when in reality its not so. Can you imagine anyone working in the mobile industry insisting that the P990i is NOT a 3G phone?

@brym!: The folks at Glo HQ are no better off than those elsewhere. I remember my experiences with the HQ people when I was having Glodirect activated on my contract line years ago.... Like you said, crazy ignoramus they are.

Hello AYA, a few questions please;

1. what is the process and requirements to subscribe to Glo's 3G services?
2. How fast is it?
3. What is the tariff?

Hi artwales, all your questions are answered in the two articles: First Time Browsing On Glo 3G, and Putting Glo 3G Plus through its paces.

I don't mean to be huff, but its just easier for everyone to read the articles, then ask questions that are not dealt with in the posts. You can post your questions here after having gone through the articles.

Besides the OTA activation steps I put in one of the articles, you can simply walk into any Gloworld and have your line provisioned. If you want a contract package, of course, you'll have to do the paper work and pay some outrageous fees

Cheers!

So apart from Aya, who else is 3g enabled? and what are your views? According to Aya's article, you do not have to be on the post-paid plan to use glo's 3g services. None of the three networks have active 3g here.

P990i is not a 3g phone??? what a laugh. I wonder what the criteria for picking customer care personnel is.

I am 3G enabled but the signal keeps disappearing every now and then, so I have not really tried it.
