I tried the DS yesterday, and the PSP last week in Dublin.
The DS is very plasticy and i wasnt impressed at all.
Take the badges off and i would have given
DS 6/10
PSP 9/10 [addsig]

Ridge racer DS can't be compared to the psp version. The DS version is a port of the n64 version, the psp version is brand new code written for the psp.

Look at the topic title(biggest ever :-D ), now tell me the games aren't being compared. lol, you're seriously questioning nintendo's build quality over sony's? Don't make me laugh. How about an extremely high dead pixel rate, buttons that jam, trapped dust under screens, discs that fly out randomly, and more on the psp. One thing is for sure, the ds will still be working perfectly after 6 months of hard use, the psp won't

I see Mr. Anti-SONY returns.

No-one here has had any of those problems with their PSP & there are worse doubts about the DS! There have been so many of the demo ones that are now dead including a lot of broken touch screens.

As for the game comparison:
Yes this is a direct comparison as that is the fairest thing to do. Comparing RRs PSP with Mario Golf DS would be pointless!
The two RRs are a perfect comparison as they are the same type of game made by the same company, can't say fairer than that.

The comparison is of the graphics & gameplay & not the amount of new content or old ported stuff and the DS clearly cannot match the PSP on either.

The fact that they port N64 games says it all for the DS, its a portable N64 & not Gamecube quality. The PSP however is undeniably PS2 quality.

There's no point in hating either one, they're both good but the DS is typically childish & clearly aimed at kids while the PSP is more advance, more sophisticated & aimed at an older market.
I don't hate Nintendo or the DS but I don't want one either. The PSP howeve is exactly what I want (& have)

exactly....thank you...so we are comparing graphics etc here...nuff sed

what i just dont get is how a DS user goes on and on as if every psp in the world has the same few problems....and they keep on repeating it....same old same old....what if i told you that my psp has none of those problems that has been mentioned....what would you say to me then

we can see that the PSP is better from the mini revew and youre telling me that the PSP is worse...your whole argument is based solely on those few problems that practically all users will have never had or will ever have with their PSP

im not a nintendo hater or anything...in fact i still have my classic gameboy....reminds me of old times...lol....all im saying is that you can see that the PSP is clearly better

Come on. You have no blue what you're on about. Ridge racer is not a sim and is therefore not about realistic control. It's a powersliding game you fool. The two games simply can't be compared. And i know a gameshop owner via another forum who confirms all of the problems i mentioned, he hasn't had one unit without a dead pixel. The psp is also NOT portable ps2. And i'm not anti sony, but you are exactly what i expect from a 'sony' ericsson site.

And if u read the comments in my review you'll see that I have criticised it for drifting badly & not smooth like the PSP you fool!

The PSP version is anything BUT a realistic sim but it plays perfectly & enjoyably as a true arcade racer should while the DS does not!
I can't see why u think they can't be compared?! They are made by the same company & hence display what they can do with each console.
What would u like to compare instead?

Can I just ask if u own or have played either?

Edit: I didn't say PSP is a portable PS2, I said its of PS2 quality.
Please take time to read properly

People who just turn up to try and rain on other people's parades usually do it for one of a few reasons:

Insufficient fulfillment in their own lives
Jealousy
Spite

I'd say from the tone of your comments that you certainly fit into this category pretty well.

There seems to be a pretty obvious answer to your dissatisfaction with this 'sony' ericsson site - go join a Nintendo forum and chat with people who have similar interests to yourself (generally the point of a chat forum) and probably just as childish an attitude....

We had the same problem when I posted a thread with pics of my new PS2 Slimline last year.

I don't mind people not liking products but u've got to give valid reasons & have personal experience.

hi everyone... i got me an american DS and had it for bout a week and i have re-packaged it an give it to ma little bro as a present coz the quality of the games isnt the same as the PSP i have.... Note:

1. Yes loading times are quicker but i have to save the game everytime i want to leave it, my psp i just put into standby and its there when i return...

2. Not one dead pixel on my PSP, no dust behind screen, UMD Discs stay put even when i shake the PSP hard!, whereas the DS touchscreen is already startin to look a bit scratched and the cartridges are a tad too small... easy to lose...

3. Did no1 mention that pretty soon their is goin to b UMD movies being released and that puts the PSP firmly in the portable media player category which isnt pack full of handhelds that can play games....

4. Yes the battery life on the DS is a few hours better but why ne1 would wanna play the DS for longer than a few mins with its inferior graphics is ne1's guess....

5. So every game they release on the DS is going to have touchscreen compatibility? Oh come on Ninty, there is only so many things u can do with the touchscreen then it jus gets scratched and boring...

thats my rant over and done with and on a final note.....

THE SALES FIGURES FOR PSP VS DS IN JAPAN SHOW IT ALL REALLY!

DS had a good couple of months lead on the PSP and still the PSP has caught up to b bloody close! [addsig]

I posted in here for one reason, the(still) ridiculous comparison of the two ridge racers. Then some one alre makes silly claims about nintendo build quality, which brought up the obvious. I don't own a ds and don't intend to buy one. Now of course we have sony users eating there ps2-xbox 'graphics don't matter' words. Only came into to point out one thing, nothing else. Oh and there's only about 1 million psp's on the market in japan. There physically isn't enough for it to sell the same number as the ds.

Another point worth considering is that the PSP fully recharges in two hrs while the DS takes over four!

Also it states in the DS book that u can only recharge it 500 times till the battery dies.

Oh yeah, & this pissed me off, EVERY time u go & change settings or exit Pictochat etc the DS tells u it needs to shut down & turns off!!!

@ BOSSHOGG
You STILL won't give a worthy reason why u can't compare the SAME game title made by the SAME people on different consoles.

Also the graphics difference between PS2 & X-Box is only noticeable when u put them next to each other, I'm sure even you can see that the GULF between PSP & DS is simply vast!

I know the dif is huge. Like i said, one was written for the n64 (3 years ago?) and ported to a new handheld with touchscreen additions. The other was written in the year 2004 from scratch for the psp specifically. Compare the new need for speeds when they come out, psp will still win graphically(probably), but the ds has draw your own decals lol. Just been announced the ds will have a free online wifi service by the end me the year.
