Acer Liquid S2 uses H.264.

H.265 isn't implemented yet on any mobile device.

Wikitude debuted on that platform so many of you love.to hate: BlackBerry!

Either way Sony is working on the camera API for developers.to.take advantage of.

A number of other gimmicky-sounding features abound in the camera app, including Social live (posting photos and video live to Facebook) and Info-eye, an augmented reality feature akin to Yelp’s Monocle. Sony is promising an SDK for app developers to extend the camera’s functionality, too.

Social Live is a VERY smart tactic that Sony is doing here. Post live video and pictures with real time feedback of comments and likes, Sony linking them to their product page, and they've instantly increased the product awareness and brand at an exponential increase. Very savy Sony!!

The sweet spot is the 5 free movies, from an incredible repertoire! Sony Unlimited Music, and an exclusive movie also available for download. Now SMW2 from specific retailers.

Quick question what is the Acer Liquid S2 using for encoding the 4K video? is it H.265 or H.264? I can't seem to find the info anywhere. Engadget claims "24fps and up to a 20Mbps bit rate" not but no codec.

On the C6903 the h.265 is only for decoding, not encoding, would this mean no 4k recording? Unless Sony opts for 4K using h.264 but someone posted the files would be rather large.

4k can wait for me, 1080@60fps would be much better option and I would imagine a future firmware update will add it, hopefully by october's end. Wonder if Apple will add 1080@60fps to the 5S today, rumour has it the phone will use a 13MP camera, which might be the 13MP exmor RS from Sony.

Maybe if someone can develop an Xperia Camera App for 1080p60 video recording. We can name it Slo-Mo Video, which should also include 720p120.

As far as it is concerned, the current Exmor RS only capable of 1080p30, 1080p60 and 720p60.

That's an old chip, Z1 uses a brand new sensor though we don't have any concrete details about its capabities yet

Ah ok, thanks, hmm wonder how large the video files will be in the Acer. This also means the sony can easily have 4K with future firmware.

That's a shame for Apple

@razec, perhaps Sony will release some info on the brand new sensor soon?

This information here isn't really accurate.
As far as I know the new (or old) Sony Exmor RS sensor doesn't have the "Newly-developed 'RGBW coding' method". It turned out that a sensor with additional white pixels was either too expensive or too inefficient.
Current HDR modes are only achieved by software, no hardware HDR!

It could be, Sony semiconductors website used to publish new products before we could see them being used on an actual device. but lately they seem to have forgotten to update their site, perhaps they did it deliberately as they want keep it secret from the competitors especially that Z1's camera module is exclusive.

Z1 sensor will anyway not show up on Sony semiconductors page as it's not a commercial product but a custom made sensor for Internal use.

I don't rate any of these tests until and official device is tested and not a prototype, there have been several different online camera tests and they all seem to be good but inconsistent , although in saying that - if the screen and camera are as good as anything else available today then the rest is just a bonus making it the best in class device, it certainly won't make think about cancelling my order

I heard the Chinese version of Z1 has disclosed the SOCIAL LIVE function in the camera app.
Does anyone know if it can be added later with a simple ROOT & flash international or HK version?

Its just a SOFTWARE side right?
