@angel: dapsy hasnt touched his "mis-yan" yet!
When is someone gonna put something for mtn?
No one is saying anything again about the 3G. Was that a starter gun misfire on the 3G RACE? Was thinking by now we would have this thread bursting with posts on new apps and services due to 3G. Instead we are still sitting on our hands waiting. |

The truth is that no-one anybody knows has used this 3G thing. A friend of mine spoke with someone he knows at Glo, for example, and was told that management has instructed customer service reps to tell enquiring customers that their Glo 3G Plus ads were just marketing. Imagine.
Of course, we all know the same is true for MTN: the announcement was just a marketing/publicity stunt.
When we experience it, we'll talk about it.
Happy New Year, everyone!

So are you guys at least getting 3G reception? I mean if these companies promise service they're unable to provide its false advertising.
Down here in SA it happens a lot over the summer months when people have money to spend the marketing departments of companies come up with all sorts of schemes to get a share of the pie- which sometimes involves false advertising.

Hi... back from my hometown. Two weeks of sleep n doing nothing.
Happy New Year. Wishing y'all a super 2008.
Coola's Nominations for The Unofficial Proudly Nigerian Awards 2007:
1.HONORARY AWARD OF 2007(MALE)
Demmy's award should be changed to "Halley's Comet Pop-in Award" for consistently popping-in at regular intervals. (Like I am SURE he will pop-in to reply this post )
2.HONORARY AWARD OF 2007(FEMALE)
Tilly? Who is she???? The Award should be dropped. (BTW, she is the only PNF I have met personally and she is here in Abuja on NYSC.)
3.MOST CONSISTENT POSTER AWARD(MALE)
AYA still deserves this award.
4.MOST CONSISTENT POSTER AWARD(FEMALE)
Angelgirl's Award should be changed to PNF's "First Lady for Life" Award for her incredible Consistency and Commitment.
5.MOST ENGAGING POSTER
Abu deserves an Award for being controversial. He must respond to every argument. (Dokubo Asari Award? Or Bob Mugabe Award?)
6.POSTMASTER OF THE YEAR
Esato Mods have largely ignored us so we can drop this one
7.MOST ASSISTS AWARD
This should be shared between several PNF members.
8.FRESH AIR AWARD
Nah. Babu. Coola is the big loser this year. Except there is an award for Filling-in-the-blanks Award.
9.LUCKY POSTER AWARD
Lucky Poster... who got that 8000th post again?
10.FRIEND OF THE FORUM
Brix's Award should be cancelled... he has become a honourary Nigerian. He is an Ijaw from the Niger-Delta region. "Brix" is short for "Biririkoko". Once I get married, I will start organising a curvaceous wife for him.
11.MISSING IN ACTION AWARD
AreaFada should be removed from the "Missing in Action" Awardees. Some may never return so MIA should be -maybe- RIP
12.VICIOUS WOLF AWARD
Vicious Wolf Award? Let's replace it with an Award that encourages PNF ppl to venture into other forums and maybe get some post points.

No way! I haven't, and no-one I know has. Nigerian GSM operators are reknowned for false advertising. We've seen more than enough of such over the years.

@Aya: There is 3G reception in some locations but I guess thats all there is to it. I was in Lagos for the holidays, and around my mechanic's workshop there was 3G on Glo, so I tried browsing and each time the phone connected to packet data through gprs. Isn't UMTS supposed to be the default data bearer and gprs the fall back in case of 3G failure?
Happy New year all

Yes; it is - if the 3G network is active (and of course your phone is set to dual-mode, so it handles the switch automatically).

@coola:lol! Its the Bob Mugabe award.
@aya: it still doesnt make sense. I would expect once they started crying wolf it would keep resonating. But just a few crys (simultaneously by glo and mtn) then silence. Mtel should have coo coo joined and said 4.5G! But as the signal is out, the equipement and software should be up and running. If they cant handle the traffic of launching in a few major towns they should at least offer the services in an obscure side of one major town. Thats how MTN originally spread around naija, setting up one mast in a town then heralding "MTN NOW IN .......". Crooks! |
