corners needs to be cut in order to stay profitable especially when you have to buy parts from other suppliers and also use premium material to build the phone. |

With 2014 set to be the year of 4K in mobile how about this for an idea for 4K content. Cast your memory back a few years ago and you may remember the Samsung Galaxy Beam which had a projector that was capable of nHD playback now fast forward to 2014 could this tech be used in a future Xperia device capable of shooting 4K video and playback via the projector at full 4K resolution. We have the technology to make this happen I think I know it sounds gimmicky but what a way to show your 4K video with all your friends without the need of a 4K tv.
Would anybody like this in a future Xperia Model and does anyone think it is even possible?

4K projector on a mobile ? are you kidding ? the technology is here I know but it's unfeasible if you want something practical... it's hard already to have a pocket sized fullhd projector these days, how would you put one in a mobile, not to mention going up to 4k...
the higher the resolution you go, the more complicated is to put it in small size...
There's two ways for projectors to have a small size, LCD screen ( colour or grayscale ) or DMD based technology
both grayscale LCD and DMD will need an RGB light source, while full colour LCD will be good with RGB or white LED... that LCD or DMD module will need to have the same resolution as the output, and imagine having a 4k resolution DMD or grayscale LCD in a size around 1 square cm !! DMD will be easier than LCD here but 4k is still very hard, and you will need a very powerful RGB source and optics to handle such a small size DMD to show the picture...
for me, I prefer Sony to have their own pocket sized projector, the idea is to make it mobile ready, MHL or Miracast...

If Samsung managed to squeeze an nHD projector into a phone around 2 years ago surely the tech is now more advanced I know a 4K projector in a phone is as ridiculous as it sounds and MHL or Miracast are great options but you still need a 4K tv to enjoy playback at full resolution I was mearly thinking of a way to eliminate the tv.

nHD is 1/8 from FullHD, and FullHD is 1/4 from 4K, so 4K has 32 times as many pixels as nHD... and all these are cramped in a tiny 1cm DLP ( 3M Streaming projector which is a pocket sized one has a 480p in 1cm DLP, but one pico projector has a 800p DLP )
I'm not against the idea, having something top notch is always welcome, I'm just saying it's too early to have a pico projector that can output 4K... we don't even have FullHD pico projector (maximum is 800p) !! and FullHD pocket projector are very hard to find
As I said, a pocket projector is more possible, but even that I can't see any possibility for a 4K now, maximum is FullHD... luminosity is a big issue with portable, pocket and pico projectors... most pico projector has less than 100 lumens ( actually 55 - 65 ) so it's very hard... pocket projectors are better as they go beyond 100 up to 450-500... but you need over 1000 if you want very clear and crisp...

I've just found out, that 4.3 JB update brings downloadable, customisable themes for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra
Finally... After long years of freedom of customisable themes with Sony Ericsson feature phones

Just ridiculous hardware. Now we have to see whether the software and support back it up, if they do, rip a lot of OEMs, if they don't, they are the latest lg. |

@Gitaroo
that was more of a joke
@XperiaJunkie
i don't care much for projector.
i think sony better focus more on perfecting more of the basic stuff like less camera noise, dual led/slim xenon flash module, higher quality front facing camera, 4k ready, stronger glass/aluminum back and sides, self healing body, better display with better viewing angles, louder speaker, no front and back film, slimmer bezel, longer lasting battery, glove mode, etc.
@puestadelsol
it's about time. i had many themes on my w800i since 2005...

highly doubt 4K will be standard maybe 1 or 2 4K phones shows up at the end of 2014 and probably no good. Unless you want to go back to 30fps or lower fps UI interface. Mark Cerny (PS4 system architect) said 10 gigs of bandwidth just to handle the hud a lone in 4K resolution. I think even mid end PC would have problem handling it, the display can be available but useless until we get other hardware to keep up. End of 2015 might be when we finally see hardware that are capable of handling it at a decent speed.

Yep, that thing is a beast. I do hope SONY decides to put S-Master on their upcoming Xperia's. |

Sorry to disappoint you. won't happen. someone from sony said in an interview that there are hardware limitations in a mobile phone if i recall. who knows, maybe in the future.
