I don't know if I just had a lemon, but the GPS on my w995 is MUCH better then on my c905. The w995 gets signal quickly and holds it when outdoors, the GPS on the c905 was simply horrible, no matter what firmware |

I find it to be the same as my HTC Dream. |

Review up at Tech radar, rated 3/5 and would of been 2.5/5 if they didn't like SE
http://www.techradar.com/revi[....]ny-ericsson-aino-643257/review
We liked
We liked the simplicity of the layout and what the phone is trying to do - it's got a fairly solid build, although it feels a little long in the hand.
BBC iPlayer is always a plus, and the easy-to-use touch media interface is nice. We like the included stand and are big fans of the bundled MH100 headset, and the GPS system with a number of location based services is a nice touch.
We disliked
Sadly we disliked a great deal more about the phone, from a laggy OS when multi-tasking to an odd touch/non-touch combination.
Elements like the touchscreen seizing up, the camera taking 15 seconds to move from one picture to another and the fact the PS3 connectivity doesn't work regularly make it hard to love this phone, especially when the battery dies for the umpteenth time.
Verdict
We liked the Aino a lot when we got it out the box, and our opinion dwindled downwards from there. When the main selling point isn't fully functional (ie, the PS3 compatibility isn't up to speed) and both the camera and media player are slow to react, we're struggling to find a reason to recommend this phone.
The Sony Ericsson W995 has the same UI, but is a lot faster, and comes in a nicer chassis, has a faster camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack and crucially is around £120 cheaper to buy.
We would have given the Aino half a star less than we have, but we're still fans of the simplistic Sony Ericsson interface, and the overall package doesn't deserve to be among the worst phones of the year - we're just disappointed with the effort.

today i noticed that two guys are selling the phone here in DR and it looked very strange to me. well, one put up some pics, but the other didn't. the prices are quite cheap for what the phones are. even cheaper than the c905 which is not cheap here.

Well my white Aino arrived and I couldn't be happier that I chose the white. It looks stunning! Haven't had a huge play round, but the new position of the space button (on the 0 key) is going to take getting used to.
Touchscreen and everything is so far responsive, but then I've only had it turned on for 20 minutes.

Congrats!
I hope your opinion won't go downwards when using the phone a bit more

Thanks! I hope not too. One thing I thought the phone had, but mine certainly doesn't was the SMS conversation view. I was looking forward to that but it ain't here!
Otherwise all is still great.

I'm wondering, how do we make requests to SE for changes/improvements and such?
For example, I'd like to be able to turn down the screen-brightness to less than 50%, and I can't really imagine it would be a big deal to include.
I realize there are contact forms at their website, but those rarely go anywhere in my experience. So where can we send such requests, so that they'll actually be read by someone? |

Unwrappped my White Aino last night. Beautiful to behold, Not too impressed with the slider. I think it was 500 who said it first that it feels not quite as tight as it could be. The dark blue edging is plastic. Mine is the HK variant and has Facebook built into the left softkey, don't know about other regional variants but I'm not sure I like it.
UI is smooth as silk. There are odd differences to the previous A200 like the settings menu is in a list rather than having the tabs for 'General', 'Display' etc etc. Also I can't find where to turn the 'new events' to 'pop-up' instead of 'activity menu' I like to have the pop-ups because they looked prettier.
Would have like to have seen pinch zooming, but maybe the capacitive screen doesn't support multitouch.
You can't press a volume button in locked mode to see the clock like you used to, you have to press the unlock key which shows a large digital clock in landscape mode.
Speaker quality is very good. So far with the camera I'm not overly impressed, but I'm used to my C905. When the slider is open the touchscreen doesn't operate, it exits the media player/camera and goes back to the standby screen.
The built-in browser is better than the older version, but I haven't noticed tabbed browsing and it doesn't work with the touchscreen.
Gmail app works with touchscreen but the icons are a little small to use fingers with, switching to large fonts may help, haven't tried it yet.
Opera Mini 5 beta works with touchscreen and is really nice, really really nice!
The screen is a bit fingerprinty.

The phone looks and feels great.
Very good slider no wobble at all (better than my W995)
Great screen, beautiful colors/contrast
Physical keyboard is a bit small, but with very good feedback
Touch screen when in media style (keyboard closed) is very responsive.
I tried Opera MINI 5
It uses another interface than the one on W995.
It is not very much responsive, lots of missclicks, the virtual keyboard is useless. I hope the final version will fix/enhance touch use.
I also tried SNAPTU and I Highly recommand it to all users : it's a great tool and has an excellent touch response !
Wifi
Very good catch, quick. Better than W705 & W995 (which was very good)
GPS
worked inside my office! But seems to searching for sattelites when I tried it on foot...
Menu navigation
beautiful themes and icons, but kind of slow Flash menus compared to W995
Games
only 2 isntalled,no use of thouch screen and slow !
Speaker
I thought my WW995 was the loudest SE, I was wrong : Aino has great sound and is the loudest phone I ever had.
Battery life
It sucks: Not even 1 day for the first charge (100% brightness , 3G Internet ...) Maybe my battery is defective...
I am now on my second charge, it seems better but still not very good.
Music playback: did not try yet
Remote play
Tried at home using my network : music is great, videos can lag (sound quicker than image, but quality can be downgraded and it helps).
I couldn't make it work with another WIFI connection ! Did not try it with 3G
What I don't like:
- Annoying when you close the slider : touch media even if you are alreay in music playback
- Your can answer calls using touch : I think SE could have easily enabled making calls using touch too
- integrated Facebook is very slow (Using Snaptu's Facebook works like a charm)
- battery life
- having to slide the keyboard to access the navigation keys is very very disturbing

I have a generic Aino and I don't have the Facebook softkey. I have "Media" and "Search" which takes you to a Google Search. Very helpful.
Also, my slider seems very solid. No complaints there at all.
Hopefully I'll have some images up tomorrow.
