I cant remember what it was like on the P990 but I find it fine on the P1.
Full whack on the tube means I cant hear the driver announcements!
This does vary with different tunes though. |

I've now had my P1i for just over a month and I've not even considered switching back to my K810.
Actually, I've given the K810 to my girlfriend.
Have now debranded the P1i (originally on O2 UK), put generic world 1 firmware onto it and updated it via SEUS.
Very happy with it and I can't see me changing phones again anytime soon.
One thing I'd like for my P1i is the application to use it as a webcam. I've seen it on the P1 Choice site but my P1i didn't come with a voucher.
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose |

...whereas... having had my TyTN II for 2-3 weeks I'm already ready to dump my P1 in favour of getting the K850, which is strange considering that even after a year or so of M600 (combined with P990 and original TyTN) I couldn't give that one up (still have it even now)

Over a month into P1i ownership now so here's an update on my opinion.
I came from a Nokia N80, which I found to be a very good phone. The one thing I have missed from the N80 is the amount of software support for UIQ3. It's not that there isn't software out there, you just get a lot more on S60v3.
What it lacks in software though it makes up for with stability of operation. The only issues that I've had have been a couple of crashes with TomTom, which seems to have been cured since I wiped the phone and started installing all the applications again.
I know there's been debates about Wireless B over G. I actually don't notice anything when using the phone. I use the Wireless a lot as well. It's on from the moment I arrive at either home or in the office so I can attach to my email.
There are a couple of annoyances with the phone that could be improved.
Firstly, the voice dialling. Sony could really take a leaf out of the S60v3 OS and make it so all of you contacts have a voice recognition for dialling. The system on S60 then learns you voice over time. Within a week you'll find it's hit rate on voice dialling is extremely high - better than the voice tags on the P1i I've found.
Secondly, which is due to the poor voice dialling, making calls while driving can be very fiddly if the person isn't on a speed dial. Perhaps the ability to customise the phone book display would be a nice feature, making the selection buttons for the different numbers a bit bigger.
Apart from those though I'm very impressed with this phone. I've not been tempted to go back to my Nokia. I'm also really glad I chose this phone over the N95, especially when I see the problems my work colleagues have had with their N95's. After saying I would never own another SE phone after the bugs I experienced with the K750 I'm glad I went back.

Finally O2 have seen sense and have introduced a flat rate mobile internet add-on to their contracts. It's got a 200mb per month fair usage limit. So from now on I don't have to worry about sky-rocketing my bill by browsing a few pages when out of range of wifi. The 1mb per month that they still offer as standard is really not of this time, especially with a smartphone.

I would also dump my p1i for a k850...if i had a TyTN II...which i haven't...so i wont.
i can appreciate your love of the m600 tho - still have mine too. Cant bring myself to change my profile picture... |

That was some endorsement...
But I agree - if the remaining quirks are straightened out, it's a strangely well- made phone in the end.. I mean, I have been waiting for the real disappointment for a while now, and none of the problems so far really qualify. |

My P1 is on its way. Amazing to see all you guys now with P1s, users who i've associated with P990 for the longest while, all riding that firmware roller coaster. Lets hope we all have better days with the P1. From reading all comments so far, seems like thats already the outlook. cheers, Satcha.

Anyone think the P1 will drop in price with the G900 reported to be only 350 Euros at launch?

Well I already have one but im just saying if the G900 really does indeed start at the 350 Euro price (thats around £270 & cheaper than what the P1 already is in the UK) then almost no one will by the P1. Apart from a slightly larger screen it has no advantages over the G900.

@wiraperkasa
Welcome to Esato.
First: *.SIS files can be either S60 (Nokia) files that are non compatible, UIQ 2.1 that are non compatible, and UIQ 3 files which are compatible; so check if you are installing the right file for your phone.
Second: Make sure you have the latest PC suite up and running perfectly.
Third: To install a SIS file, make sure the phone is connected in Phone mode and double click on it. If the phone is running the Uninstaller application it will fail (never undestood that), but otherwise it will install.
Fourth: An application may have the certificate expired. On that case or either you get a new version, of force an install by changing the phone date to match the certificate.
Fiftth (etc): The file may be corrupted. Try re-downloading it?
It also may not possible to install (upgrade) over a previous version. Try uninstalling the old version first.
Sicth: Most files SE have on their Fun & downloads section is PURE JUNK.
Get good files from outside websites.
Seventh: Try with a good file to see if installer works: i.e. Smiss Mngr:

If everything fails, report here.
