Ok so i thought i would give the phone another chance...so reflashed the firmware as advised and everything looked brillant, applications were opening at good speed...and just as i thought that i judged the phone TOO quickly, i synced the phone with outlook...and BAM...the phone has now gone to snail pace...i cant even scroll through the different applications without there being a ridculous S-L-O-W down....so frustrating cause i really want to use this phone but the software is still too frustrating to us...come on SE release a new firmware!

@Gabster, if you have time, do a Master Reset then only re-sync one item of the PIM at a time (e.g. start with only syncing Contacts) and see what happens. This was we should be able to see which app is causing problems. Also disable on-screen handwritting recoginition.

@Masseur, great find on the dimming control

yeah, not exactly the most obvious thing, and I feel that the power save settings could have been another tab of the backlight settings rather than something totally separate since even the manual describes it as a function for controlling the backlight!

@Gabster - My money is on your calender being the culprit. On mine I had birthdays setup within Outlook as appointments which had been set by using the birthday field in my Outlook Contacts.
As soon as these sync it caused all sorts og hangs and slowdowns with the M600i.
The definitely seems to be issues with all day recurring appointments, although I haven't yet pointpointed the exact circumstances that cause the problem as sometimes manually added appointments work fine.
My suggestion would be to delete everything from your calender on the M600 and try re-syncing without syncing the calender to see if it makes a difference.
Also worth noting that bithdays worked fine when added automatically on the M600 using the contacts birthday field there.

Been tracking the price of the M600 on ebay - looks like it might hit USD400 + about USD40 for shipping very soon. Seems like the M600 will be good value for (stylish) Smartphone.

What's the best price so far? Well I paid USD435 + USD60 for shipping and insurance. Not been asked to pay UK VAT yet

Anyone know why the boot up time on the M600i is so long? Also do you have to select normal mode (not flight mode) each and every time?

Does anyone know when the Skype client for UIM is due out? Can anyone recommend a good MSN client in the interim?

Finally, I heard a rumor that BB Connect is going to be out on the SE website next week? True/false?

In regards to BB client, that is the rumours that are coming round, it would have to be very soon...

BTW anyone got the message yet...'the device has restarted to improve performance'? Oh how i wish that was the case!

I don't find the bootup time to be too bad. Especialy since removing my recurring all day appointments from the calender the device is useable as soon as the today screen appears (I was getting a 30-60 second delay with recurring all day appointments in the calender).
Compared to startup times on a Noka N80 for example I've found the M600 to be postiviely speedy.

If your M600 is performing sluggishly - I'd recommend Jah's approach of performing a master reset - it has most definitely cut the web browser startup time on mine to now be less than three seconds.

You can also switch off the phone/flight mode prompt at startup too: Control Panel -> Device -> Flight Mode and uncheck the box.

yup, got the flight mode sorted out - what an annoying default setting.

I set my connection manager to never disconnect from the internet and not to show me a dialog box. hopefully that will get rid of the irritating "connect" button that keeps coming up.

i've noticed exchange activesync gets new email but won't update the top level menu. if you go to activesync itself you see new emails but from the today menu you don't.

still have to find a good msn or skype client that i can run in the background (for im - not voip).
