@francois: Use your phone's built-in browser and head on over to gmail.com/app ...it will recognise your phone and direct you to the appropriate download. Google are so good there's no use hating them.

@amawanqa, is that supposed to be a new addition to Tesco's shelves? My father came back from Wales last week and proudly showed me pics of the SA-dedicated isle. What can i say, lucky Brits;)

@ psychonymphe,
I was rather bemused to see them displaying the 'new' wording on the shelf's price display, as we have been happily purchasing Mrs Balls from Tesco for the past year at least.
Having said that, the Tesco where we used to say was within Greater London itself, where the highest concentrations of SA citizens obviously are, and demand would thus be greater.
Perhaps where we are now, being further out of London, it's still a relatively new item that is being stocked...then again we've been at our own place since late May, and we were able to buy the stuff since then already.
So I dunno; maybe it's just a sales wording thingy.
Just to add to that, before the joys of Tesco adding the likes of Mrs Balls to their inventory, the SA shops had a field day with the exclusivity that they enjoyed with such goods. They used to charge about £2.20 for the same item.
Now if I can just get the local butcher to stock boerewors more regularly during the colder Winter months...
BTW, whereabouts in Wales was your dad? Hopefully he was able to explore the more central and northern parts of the place, rather than the very Anglicised southern bits.

@amawanqa, unfortunately not! His brother recently relocated from Cambridge to Cardiff... so I'm afraid he couldnt have been further south. My father's a great explorer though so he discovered far too much... Along the lines of grey waters, strange canals, the wonders of the Welsh sign post, oh, and the SA aisles while grocery shopping. Fun stuff. And from the looks of the photographs, I'd far prefer to be buried alive than to live in a place that spends 3/4 of its winter life in darkness...!

Shew!!The heat is unbearable here in Nelspruit. Is it also hot where you guys are?Maybe a lil' bit or rain can soften the heat down. @ Wanqa,my preveous boss is from Scotland and on days like these he used to complain a lot about the heat, even in winter he still said it was too hot for him.I never recall a day with him wearing a jacket,no matter how cold the weather was!

Two years already?? Bliksem, time has really gone by flipping quickly! I recall how i used to follow the thread (rather sporadically) for ages before i joined. Seems like only yesterday...
It's relatively cool here, Jmash, typical four-seasons-in-a-day stuff.
@Wanqa, ever given any thought to making your own boerewors or biltong? It shouldn't be too difficult, methinks...
The Gmail app is really good, been fiddling about with it since yesterday.

@ psychonymphe,
'Tis unfortunate indeed.
Places like Betwys-Y-Coed, not too far south of Conwy and Llandudno along the northern coast of Wales, are truly picturesque, to say the least.
Then again, they don't have a backdrop like Die Papegaaiberg like where you are. SA's natural beauty and warmer climes are sorely missed at times...
@ jmash,
I feel the cold alright; fortunately the central heating works so well in the houses that one could happily prance around 'kaalgat' in mid-Winter.
Outside is another story...I sometimes resemble the Oros Man with all the layers of clothing if we're out on the town or in the open markets during the coldest months.
And when those cold polar winds occasionally find their way down here, their extreme wind-chill factor have the inane ability to reduce one's manhood to a secondary belly button.
@ Kryptik,
Funnily enough, my very different brother, who wields his 30.06 and classic Lee Enfield .303 during hunting season, readily makes his own biltong and droewors from his 'prizes'.
I guess I could make my own, but I always seem to find time to do other things...maybe I should try; even if it's just to see the neighbours' reaction when they notice all the pieces of raw meat dangling from the ceiling in the shed...

I resemble the Oros Man throughout the year
When was the last time anybody heard anything of TahirAlly? I was reminded of his passionate support for Vodacom whilst i was half-listening to a conversation at the coffee shop earlier this evening; two guys were having an animated debate over which network was the better, Vodacom or MTN. As far as i could tell the Vodacom supporter either owns a Voda store or is a partner in one, whilst the MTN guy is one of the most successful independent cellphone store owners around(and who used to be the slowest thinker in a Math class which i taught way back in 91 which goes to show you that you don't always need to be the sharpest academic knife in the drawer to become a successful businessman).

@da krypsta: Tahir Ally is probably still following this thread but you'll find him posting at the myadsl.co.za forums and mostly in the Vodacom forum.

Good to hear that it's all sorted, Francois.
I've just watched the making of the Jackass 'Number 2' movie(what an appropriate name for their sequel ). Johnny Knoxville was knocked unconscious 3 times during the making of the 'film'. No surprises, I guess...
He came incredibly close to being skewered by a rampant bull's horns.
By the looks of things, Steve-O remains the most mentally deranged of them all though.
_______
Right, how's this for an incentive to get the whole family onto the same network, by none other than the Big Red One:
(Taken from axxxr's post):
Vodafone Family.
Choose up to 3 other people to make up your family group and calls between all of you are unlimited.
Just one of you pays £5 (approx R70) a month and you can make as many calls as you like to each other (up to 60 minutes per call), at any time. It doesn’t matter if you’re a pay as you talk or a pay monthly customer, as long as the four of you are all on Vodafone.
If you need a larger group, no problem one person can pay £7 (approx R100) for unlimited calls between 6 people. you’ll never have to worry about your kids not being able to call you because they’ve run out of credit on their mobile.
________
Suddenly I like Vodafone a lot more.

my word! if they buy vodacom from telkom they better do that here as well! makes every south african offer of friends lists with cheaper calls look like some big joke:)
Vodacom definately did not give me the latest firmware last week. my phone now shows the progress bar when i copy between folders. never did that. only showed that it is doing something. i owe them a big k@kuit and thank you:)
