E-Town are a bit weird. I didn't end up buying from them cause they didn't want to play ball but I sent them an email asking if they'd match PhonesDirect's price for me. Their reply was a little weird though. They said:

Dear customer:

Our prices of SonyEricsson C902 are:

$829.99 Black and $774.99 Red.

These prices include GST and 1Year wanrranty.

Cheers

etown

Firstly, they didn't even acknowledge my question at all which is pathetic, and then they state the wrong prices. Looking at their website, they say that both colours of C902 retail for $749.99 which is cheaper than both the prices they quoted in the email!

Anyway, I sent them a reply because by the time they sent this email, Parallel Imported had already agreed to price-match Expert Infotech which significantly undercuts anywhere else.

In my reply I said:

That's ok, I got it for $685 including 1 year warranty elsewhere.

Thanks anyway!

Oliver.

Stupid isn't it? Its based on popularity I think. They sell them for as high a price as they think they can get for them. Though I would have thought the red would be more popular and therefore more expensive!

@JiSm: Thank you mate. I'm glad everyone seems to like it! And I'm sure missing NZ will just make it even better next time you visit home again.

maybe they thought that too and made the red start off a little more expensive but the black sold more cause it was cheaper and so the red ended up cheaper than the black

Haha nah I don't think they will have sold many if any C902s yet. They've only had them a couple of weeks! Plus I think you thought about that one way too much.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if you guys use the net on your phones and if so, for what? I'm just curious because I always read on these things like the net on your phone is great for everything, including streaming video, but Vodafone's too expensive. I've actually never tried, but that $1 a day for 10mb wouldn't be that great.. right?

I'd imagine 10MB wouldn't get you very far. I haven't really ever used it though. Also, I just wonder whether such a small screen is very good for browsing the net. I mean, I know my W910i might be alright because it is 2.4", but on a 2.0" C902 screen or something I think it might be quite annoying!

Anyway, I'd say carkitter would be better to talk to about this as he has a Vodafone data plan.

Well I use the V640i as a modem and 10MB would go nowhere...
I also poll my emails 6x per day so $1 per day everyday is $30 per month thats some expensive emails...
I occasionaly browse Esato and the NZ Herald tech pages which would be good value, but I don't visit You-tube or TVNZ/TV3 on demand video. If I had an iPhone I probably would but again 10MB would go nowhere.
Downloading podcasts is something I'm keen on but again the files are quite large on audio 30mins+...
Vodafone 3G zones are still not widespread and in a moving vehicle you tend to move in and out of these zones.

It's because of these reasons that I am critical of this pricing regime and have emailed Vodafone about it some weeks ago recommending they drop the per day restriction making $1.00 per 10MB over an open time period very competitive.

On the subject of public transport, I believe every bus, train, ferry and stop/station/terminal should have a free Wifi signal on board. This could have a 30 min limit and/or advertising attached but it should be available and free both for public benefit, and as an inducement to use public transport.

While some schools are working themselves into a state trying to ban cellphones from class, I've read a very good viewpoint recently on why they should be mandatory in class. The idea revolves mostly around use of smartphones to replace laptops and desktops therfore lowering education costs, not txting your mates and recording playground fights on camphones though. I'm sure Vodafone would go for something like that if it introduced teens to Mobile Data...

Yeah I thought those prepay data deals seemed crap. I don't imagine I will ever really use it at all. Not at least until they drop the prices a bit further. It doesn't take an idiot to work out that $1 per 10MB is like paying around $100 per GB, and that's just ridiculous. On the xtra broadband deal we used to have, we got 3GB for about $30 I think, and that wasn't even enough so we now get 6GB.

On the subject of schools trying to ban mobile phones, my old school which my younger brother still goes to has given up. They say that mobile phones are fine at school so long as they don't disrupt class. I think that's a much better approach which more schools should try out. Saying there is an absolute ban is like challenging the students to disobey them. Students will always have their phones at school, its just a matter of whether or not they get caught.
