You've got me all cracked up here! Oh boy! Hey! What happened to the SE versus Nokia war? My bottle of coke is unfinnished yet, and the Shawarma's gone cold already

Let us still thank Steve Jobs for the iPhone, at least other manufacturers have taken the challenge to venture into touch screen UI, while some others have improved their existing device interface and overall performace of their phones/devices.
Nokia launched their S60 touch yesterday. You can see the video in the link below if you have a fast or broadband connection:

@all, you guys should stop painting me like a millionaire i only ave two fones a N95 and a very very useless starcomms handset.

@brym, u are a techno internet wizard. It's just a pity u are on the other side of life, (come over to the west side which is the best side).

@all, i suggest that you should be seriously thinking of buying a phone like Nokia N95 that has global postioning system (GPS) in built, so u can located ur exact location in the bush i.e getting lost in the bush in the worst case scenario, since Madam Etthe has refused to vacate her seat. One reason why Nokia is better.
Brym or anybody what makes SE the fone for u?

PNF Survey results: Oops! Everyone is ready for the 3G party except moi.

Don't you Guys think there will be some kind of activation/subscription via SMS BEFORE y'all can start using the 3G network like we had to do with GPRS?

I also wonder what kind of license was given to Alheri Engr for 3G. I should think the 3G license should have national coverage with roll-out conditions. But for an operator to offer the service in a few cities seems like a waste. But then, the NCC likes dollars....

I'm not certain what conditions were given to Alheri, but I do know that the Alheri spokesman specifically said that they would be rolling out with several cities. Unless he was playing with words, that doesn't sound like 'a few cities'.

Here's an ongoing 3G sniffing exercise in Lagos

It's just a pity u are on the other side of life, (come over to the west side which is the best side).

In the past one year I have been in several sides of life O! ...Nokia E50, Nokia 9300, HTC Wizard, SE W950i. And I still have my HTC Wizard so that should make me "Area" of some sort. Just hold your side!

You are a true War Lord, armed with Nokia defence systems.

As I mentioned earlier: the shape, size, weight and price of the W950i, and ah the big "junk in the trunk" memory, 4GB.

Hello blacky; no-one knows for sure. But official word from the operators can be summarised "next few weeks". Personally, I am not convinced that is feasible.

Sorry guys, these days I dont get to log in as often as I used to, and there have been so many replies since my last post that I would like to respond to. I'm currently working on a drilling rig in Edo state and only have access to gprs when I get back to the city.
First of all, I've inherited an N70 which is a 3g phone, plus my M600i so I guess that means I'm double ready for 3g. But unfortunately, no 3g tags here in Benin.
@Area, Pxt and Brym: Please tell me what you enjoy most from ur Nokia phone that you cannot do better on a less expensive SE model?
apart from certain installable 3rd party applications, a W810 will stand its own against most of the Nseries smartphones.
My w810 has a wonderful camera, an excellent mp3 player, large memory, and a host of very useful java apps (Dictionary, Bible, instant messenger, wireless print software, photo editor, file encrypter, rss news reader) it also has a bluetooth remote control which I use to control my media player and powerpoint presentations. I've configured my email client to d/l my mails every hour, so feature wise, this phone is loaded. My preference for SE is based on the intuitive nature of the OS, I find what I need where I expect to find it. The phone predicts my next move. for instance when typing text, if I select the 'open bracket' symbol, SE knows that the next thing will be to close the bracket after the required text has ben input, but not nokia. Also when entering names in contacts, SE know that names are proper nouns and so capitalises them after a space, but not nokia. why would I need an application to transfer contacts via bluetooth? do u need one to transfer photos? Yes SE has issues with UIQ3 but that doesn't make its java models any less capable. Aya is happy with his E61i very good, but I will not be caught dead holding a saucer to my ears. He was once this happy with a p910i and will be with a future SE model.
Lets be objective and not sentimental about our judgements. If S60 is stable, well so is Java. UIQ3 hasn't totally failed, Motorola has succeeded with it, and now SE has done the needful by selling part of its stake in UIQ to moto. lets see what they make of it.
I say SE is more innovative than nokia.
Proof:
SE pioneered the smartphone with the R380
SE pioneered the touchscreen UI with the R380
SE pioneered the online software update service
SE pioneered musicphones with the walkman series
I could go on, but I wont.
I don't hate Nokias, I only prefer SE.
Like Angel said, I live on the Sony side of life

Alhieri Engineering is in talks to acquire Intercellular. If that deal sails through, it will settle their carrier problem and instantly give them four cities to launch their 3g services.

Is there a 3g non-smartphone Nokia model available on the market?

VOLLEY OF INTERCONTINENTAL BALLISTIC MISSILES FROM AIR MARSHAL AMBY OF THE SE REPUBLICAN GUARD!!!!

2 days absence from here, see as they are firing me! This reply go long! I pray my battery holds out.

@area: how can u talk about painting someone after u painted me with "end of discussion" and P1!! Na so dis kin gist bring armed robbers to my house last yr! Anyhow, in ur pro-nokia monologue u didnt mention the "cheap good" nokia phones. Or in its absence, cheap bad ones. Or in its absence expensive bad ones. Are there any expensive good ones?

@aya: na lie! All that ur gist was ifizi! If u are so practical in ur expenditure, u would know as someone rightly stated earlier (sorry i forgot who!!) that it maybe easier to get some msgs across via video calls. And the fact u rarely use mms which u must still be getting some free ones shows you dont take advantage of the format. Rather than call or text my bro, for example, its easier and cheaper to send a mms video or recording, which he usually replies in kind. A very long text is usually also sent by mms. But still, for clarity sake, if ur the price differential was 3-5 bucks over the normal voice tariff u still wont use it for normal calls, now and then, with no special need for it?Come on! The price difference is small. Most pay much more of a difference when neglecting to make a "on-net" call consciencly. This question goes out to everyone else too.

PS: Was it a mental note u made that 3G registry or did u go thru the thread? (or scarier, do u have ur own record )

@adrusa: dont knock video calls cos they ddnt become a fad elsewhere. Remember, the nigerian is a funny animal! We too like to pose! Elsewhere in the "developed" world, u see dollar millionaires sending text msgs (how britney spears got in trouble textn while driving). But we here have a stigma against textn, like its for the "under class". Isnt that how the whole "mobile phones are not for the masses" came about in the 090 era? The "status symbol" effect of the vid calls should get a good customer base IF its priced and placed well.

With regards to Alheri, unless they are ready to make very heavy long term investments in equipment with very negligible returns in the short term, thier 3G rollout has got to be compact and precise. No putting it up in MDs village on launch!

Assuming I need to send those kind of messages at all! And I don't. To put it straight again, an email will get those sort of messages across cheaper, and with greater certainty, simply because MMS is billed in blocks i.e. Messages below xkb cost this and messages between x and ykb cost that.

I don't send MMS at all. I tried it out when it was introduced and have found no real use for it.

You have no access to information on my telephone habits, and so you are just shooting in the dark. This sermon may be needed by others, but believe me when I say its a waste on me.

So you are asking me to spend an extra N3-5 per minute just to see someone's face even if I do not NEED to see that face?
MMS schmit; video calls schmit.
