Engaging in this sort of war is fruitless. There are more than enough points each side could throw at the other in an endless exchange of jibes.

Not worth it.

That was a quick and mature reply from the Chief of Staff of E series. Can we hear from the Chief of Staff of N series(Area) and his 2IC(pxt)?

Thank you brym. Please let us not forget one thing here. When will see a good thing we should applaud it. Nokia in recent times have been really innovative while SE have not really lived up to their reputation. Maybe W960 would change things.
i am still a sony ericsson man anyway and just as you mentioned i stumbled onto esato looking for themes for my k700i

@Amby...I think the problem you are having with the transfer is as result of a difference in platform. I will give NOKIA a call maybe they can get a small java app to do the trick.

@234hay... Oh boy there are more than enough java apps. Just google the internet. One good java app is Go-Bible Kjv. There are also Gmail, migg33plus, flurrymail etc. Wait, here is a good site: www.getjar.com.

@pxt: You are a true niger-delta war lord (sorry, I meant nokia war lord).. About time you overthrow Area, he's always AWOL.
@AYA: perks ko, pecks ni!

@amby: I'm surprised you got that response from the E65 because I've used that feature to move contacts from an N73 smartphone to a 8800 sirocco(a s40 phone). Why would Nokia remove the feature from the E65 beats me.
?My two cents: Nokia has since caught up with SE and gone beyond...just look at the variety and stability of s60 smartphones. Even SE diehards are admiting that SE's UIQ is dying and are writing a letter to the new CEO of SE to save the platform.
In regular phones Nokia S40 phones are into their 4th interface review, SE is going to their third.

Boy! SE has lost it, they slept!

I think MTN's 3G network is live in some cities only waiting for activation. In Ibadan where I live, I have connected to the 3G network over the past few days and I can say it is more stable than their 2g network, though video phone and internet are not working yet, but my p990i, nokia 6630 and e90 clearly showed that I'm connected to a 3G network.

How to know? Go to your phone network selection and select manual instaed of automatic. Your phone should indicate the presence of MTN-NG 3G in addition to MTN-NG and other networks. Please, let us know where and where the 3G networks are ready.

For Ibadan, MTN ready, Glo, Celtel, Mtel, Al-Heri, not ready.

Adrusa: You may be mistaken there. Simply selecting 3G in network settings displays the '3G' icon on the standby display. This does not indicate a 3G presence, but simply that the phone is in 3G mode.

That you have not been able to connect with it also reinforces this.

I just popped in my MTN SIM and left my E61i in dual mode i.e. active on both GSM & UMTS networks - no indication of a 3G signal, yet it should indicate if indeed a 3G signal is present. When I manually selected 3G/UMTS instead of GSM, the '3G' icon showed up. I couldn't connect either.

This same scenario is what plays when I have a Celtel or Glo SIM too.

there a tranfer application that does it in the tools folder..

I already tried that, but after pairing both devices, the E65 could not accept the transfer. Error message was 'Datamover.sis not supported.' You would think that the E65 being a business phone would be easy to use, but no. nokia is way behind SE when it comes to innovation, and functionality, Period.

I think you are wrong. I saw 2 separate networks. Look at the attached images. In the fisrt picture of nokia e90, you can clearly see that the mtn is labelled 3G while the other networks appear as usual.

In the second picture of p990i, you can see 2 MTN-NG networks. The lower one has a mark to indicate 3G. And in the 3rd picture, you can see that my p990 is connected to the 3G network instead of the 2.5G in the previous picture. You can see that the signal is weaker than before.

Indeed they will be two networks. While some will have both and you can chose which one you want, some will continue to be only 2 or 2.5G. Now lets see where else there is 3G, wipe out your phone and test!

This last few pages have been hilarious! My wife is wondering what is so funny on my phone. Brym, pls list out the whole nokia empire hierarchy!

@aya: u ddnt mention how much u'd pay for video calls! I disagree abt the nokia vs se debate being fruitless. Agreed the debaters remain unflinched in thier stance but others reading it get lots of info about thier choices. Im sure a few of our nondebating pnfers have made phone purchases from info they got from a debate.

@adrusa: too bad i set my phone not to download pix, until i go online wifi or on a pc. What kind of boredom got u to look for the 3g signal anyhow? Checked for it in maiduguri. NADA!!! People in other towns should shout out thier results.

@coola: the frequency range is different but dont think of it as a different "network".

@Abubakar: I am not interested in video calls; the operators may charge whatever pleases them

On the issue of 3G being a different network or not, if the frequency is different (and it is), it is a different network. It may use most of the hardware of the existing 2/2.5G network, but its different. That's why phones with both 2G and 3G capabilities are called dual-mode phones. And that is why separate licencees had to be issued. Note, for example, that Alheri - without a GSM network on ground - can offer 3G services. Unlike GPRS which is merely a layer over 2G for maximising data (hence the term 2.5G), 3G is a proper standalone network and can replace an existing 2G network in its entirety where necessary.

I did some 3G sniffing this morning, and found that MTN has 3G presence in Alausa and Ojota areas, while Celtel and Glo have a 3G presence in Ojota. None of the operators have a 3G network in Ojodu yet. In all cases, none of the available 3G networks is active yet, as I could not logon to any of them for either voice or data.
