@mariwun: knowing how clumsy a touchscreen is when using ur hand (not a stylus) im wondering how "big" the qwerty keyboard would be on the iphone. I have no problems using rhe P990's keyboard. Its way faster than any other method of text input i have ever used. I gotta go online and see if there is any footage of someone typing on the iphone. The curvature on the p990's keyboard makes it small but less clumsy.
I tried out the gdesk but wasnt too wowwed over it. Maybe if i try out some of the add-ons i'd be more impressed.

?Don't mind me, I am a freak for themes and UI enhancements. That is how I discovered Esato in 2003...looking for themes and screensavers for my SE T310.

@mariwun: As Abubakar has said, typing on the iPhone is not the best. Many users and reviewers have compared text input on the iPhone with other proper smartphones, and if fell short consistently.
For example, between the iPhone, the W950 and the E61i, the iPhone returned the slowest times, and the E61i the fastest. The hen-pecking style text input on the iPhone cannot return any better results.
As for the iPhone being a smartphone; no it is not. It is a very good feature phone, but certainly not a smartphone. Installable 3rd party applications is a core characteristic of smartphones. The iPhone fails there.
The iPhone is good as a mass market device with appeal and does well in that department. It is good for accessing data e.g. Web browsing. A proper smartphone does far more than that and is more for creating/producing.
I am typing this rather long post on my E61i and in just a few moments. Try typing it on the iPhone and you get the idea. I have applications installed on the E61i that makes it a computing powerhouse that the iPhone can only pretend to be in its dreams but will never be, simply because its extensibility is next to zero.
The iPhone may meet your personal needs, and I have no foundation on which to say that it does not. The iPhone may have a great user-interface, and I daresay that only a pretender will say it does not. But the iPhone is not a smartphone and delivers less productivity than ANY true smartphone does.

I am directing this post at the diehard Nokia loyalists on this forum.
My boss's wife just got an E65 and I had to transfer contacts from her old N70. She had no computer and no data cables so backing up via pc was not an option. I proceeded to mark all entries in the phonebook and send via BT. I couldn't believe my eyes as the Nokia connection began to send the contacts one by one via 736 text messages. I was thus forced to open each one in order 2 save them. Each text took approx 7seconds to open & 2secs 2 save. this same operation on an SE would take 1mim & 1 text. someone pls tell me what makes these phones smart?

@brym: thats what brought me here too. For my T630. I was stumped (an still am) that no themes for S700 wasnt (and i think still isnt) available on esato. Nearly finished a few that i was gonna post up but then issues of copyright stopped me. (it was football club logos)

@all From the Punch article, it seems Dangote's Alheri Engineering will also roll out 3G. Are they going to be a Virtual Operator? Can a network start from scratch and build a 3G network? Only in 9ja! |

Nothing new, really. 3 (a pure 3G network) did it in the UK. Abeg make Alheri hurry up! I'll pick a SIM if the price is right. I've been so hungry for mobile broadband....

@234h: it really depends on ur interests and how much u r willing to drop from ur wallet in gprs charges (in cases of its need for linking online) in the days of awoof gprs one of my favs were bluepulse. Since then i have seen quite a few good IM apps but lack of awoof gprs+ high gprs rates do not allow me to check them out thoroughly. Go to getjar.com when u are online with a pc and see what picks ur interest.
@coola: there is everychance they would just pickout high density areas in abj, port and lag to offer thier services. If they do rollout to anywhere outside that range they'll have to give good enough tariffs to make us buy a new phone for it (or at least drop a sim card in its stead!) to ay's delight.
@aya: what is ur make or break prices for simcard, tariffs etc u'd be willing to pay for the 3g experience? |

Abubakar: I prefer a flat monthly data plan and I'm willing to pay up to N15,000 per month for unlimited access e.g. Eat-all-you-can.
Voice tariffs, of course, shouldn't differ from what obtains on ground with the others.

I already tried that, but after pairing both devices, the E65 could not accept the transfer. Error message was 'Datamover.sis not supported.' You would think that the E65 being a business phone would be easy to use, but no. nokia is way behind SE when it comes to innovation, and functionality, Period. |
