SORRY ITS NOT LETTING ME EDIT MY POSTS... anyway...
A truck is going to go over a 1 mile long bridge. The truck weight EXACTLY 10,000 lbs. The bridge can hold MAXIMUM of 10,000 lbs. Nothing else is on the bridge exept for that truck. The truck stops exactly half way through the bridge, then a bird lands on the truck. Does the bridge collapse? Why or Why not? |

depends on the bridge design. Some bridges the centre may not be the weakest point. the weakest point of the bridge must be able to take 10000 lbs, so therefore if the centre is not the weakest, then it's likely the bird won't cause the bridge to collapse.
Infact, since the centre of the bridge is the obvious weak point, most bridge design will ensure the centre point is better supported and strengthened. This may move the weak point back onto the bridge columns or a point between the centre and the columns.
However if the truck stops on the weakest point, and the bird stops flapping it's wings, then I'm guessing the bridge will collapse.

Oh yeah, Doh! - the truck has a driver in it so weighs more than 10000lbs, therefore has gone "through" the bridge before the bird even lands on it!

because it does! no question, it goes through the bridge, the bird pecked the guys skull out and brain flew everywhere, causing the bridge to become slippy, where the truck goes out of control and crashes into the side wall, the guy is dead, and the ambulance comes, causing more weight on the bridge, causing 4 people to lose their lives and £3,000,000 in damage because its a MILE long bridge, and everyone lived happily every after.

lmao!!!!!!
the bridge does not colllapse because the petrol consumed (in weight) is greater than the weight of the bird...........
is that the answer?

Is it because he went throught the bridge, ie under the bridge, or is that just me misinterpreting it?
Cheers

yepp thats the awnser! the gas/petrol was used to get that far, so it made the truck weigh less, so the bird could land on the truck
sorry if it was interpreted wrong
anyone got a new one? |
