@mriley. As you know. I bought my C901 from rose and there hasn't been a problem with it. Only thing i've done is change the firmware from Middle East/Africa to Generic Western Europe. Other than that everything on the phone is spot on. Its the first Sony Ericsson phone i've owned in a long time that i've not had any complaints about.

I think some pictures are out of focus. Some C901 users, and I've also experienced this problem. I don't think that's a hardware problem, because sometimes it's precise. I've already reported it to Sony Ericsson, just like the problem that in poor lighting conditions you can't adjust the exposure correction to be brighter, you can make it only darker. They replied that they repoted it to the competent department.
So I think it's a software related problem, and the focusing isn't well optimized. I hope updates will help, which I'm waiting for.
But, some pictures are blurry because the long exposure time. This phone lacks the Image stabilizator, but the Sports mode helps...
By the way, I like this phone, and besides these little problems it's camera is really good. |

RE: Focus Problem. You just described every phone released since the A200 platform first came about. Some phones still haven't had these problems resolved. It seems that you got the standard reply as well.
RE: Image Stabiliser. There is one on the phone but unfortunately its just for the Video recording feature.
I too hope that software updates will improve certain bugs in the phone and there are a few but only minor ones. Some have even been present on every A200 platform phone and they haven't done a thing to sort them out.

Some to show the usage of the xenon flash.. In "auto+flash off" and low light the phone picks iso400 and the pics get kind of ugly and noisy. If you choose night-portrait instead the phone chooses half the iso and a longer exposure time instead.
With flash activated we get a little brighter pics in night-portrait mode instead of auto.

hope this helps c901 users get better night pics as you can see huge improvement here

Which A200 phones have problem with focusing? I have a K850 too and I hate it's camera, but there was no problem with the auto-focus. When it showed that it was done with focusing, it was precise. That's another thing that in some situations it didn't managed to focus.
But with the C901 quite often happens that it displays that focusing it's done, but you realise that it's out of focus. I noticed in these cases the phone focuses to a closer distance than the object. I was worried that it could be a hardware related problem, but in some situations it's precise.
I hope there will be a software updte which fixes this, and exposure correction at least.
Have you experienced the same focusing problem? |

Last time ago i've same problems with the auto-focus too. almost all of my picture are out of focus, just macro mode give accurate focus. i didn't know if this problems just firmware bug or a hardware problems. i've try to reflash my firmware many times, but no luck. but now my c901 auto-focus works well, i never realize when it work normal again. very strange problems.
my suggestion just be patient and try to using macro mode frequently

Just try to zoom on the object, you want to capture, and then, focusing in auto mode. You will realise that the lens is moving, but it don't stops in the right time. Then try macro mode, in a closer distance than sports scene setting, and use the zoom this instance too. You will see that the lens is moving, and zooming is more precise this time. So, I think this could demonstrate that it's not hardware, but software related. And I know that the camera driver is the same, but before R1GA028 I used R1EA033, and I remember so, I haven't had any problems with focusing. |

Only things i'm having problems with are unstable bluetooth when on a call using a Sony Ericsson headset (stereo ones are fine). This has been present on all A200 platform phones.
The other thing is lag in the web browser. There's a delay when selecting an option and the phone deciding to do something. This wasn't present on previous firmware.

some more comparisons:
with camera button

with Dpad
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8287/dsc00803k.jpg
Thus Dpad gives much better results but still i think there are problems with post processing filter
is the the quality expected from c901 at night? somehow filter seems to be making the pics muffled (NOKIA effect which i personally hate it)

i agree, this Dpad gives much better picture. With camera button, picture is very blurry.
The question is, why is it so?Maybe the new firmware can solve this problem,i hope..

about that protective film of the lens. i had it on my c510 when bought and i didn't know why the photos were that bad until couple of hours later i looked at the lens and saw the film on the lens. removed and had good day shots (and rarely in the dark) but yesterday i thought it might be the same with c901 but no...nothing is on the lens..
look at the picture. just took it now

it just doesn't look right...once again i think that's something with the filter..look at the details...
or maybe it's just me moaning about nothing?...

hmm...for some strange reasons EV-0.7 seems to be giving much more eye pleasing results than AUTO EV
AUTO EV

I do find you get a better picture if you slightly lower the EV when using the flash as sometimes you end up with flash burn on pictures.
On another note. I do have a non SE phone with an 8mp camera and if you enable macro mode and are too close to the object the image will be blurry and its hard to get a focus lock. Move the camera a bit further away and you get a focus lock and clear picture. Too far away with macro enabled and again it hard to get a focus lock and a clear picture. I wonder if the same applies to the C901 ???

About the picture with the chair... I cant get a focus lock when pointing rectangle (middle of the camera) to a surface that doesn't have any sharp edges for camera to use as a reference. Pointing it to a nearest sharp edge (at the same distance), focusing and than pointing and capturing whatever is that you want might resolve this issue.
About the outside shots, I have no idea what might have went wrong
