I think it is ok with unsecured and WEP secured network but not all WPA. Just tweak your router parameters and dont call SE engineer; you will time and money. Good phone though, looking to fill it with applications.
It's fine with WPA; that's what I'm using. To start with it wouldn't work for me either, I did a Master Reset and tried again and connected without making a profile first and it worked. Automatically works now every time. That's with a Netgear DG834GT router, if it helps anyone.

Apparently they aren't releasing it at all. I was told they probably won't be doing any P-series in future either (although I can't see how the guy in retentions would know that).
I've read a rumour somewhere (might have been on here) that they won't be doing the w960 either. I don't know whether they have some issue with SE or something.
Cheers buddy, I've decided screw Orange and I've brought a P1i sim free, seeing as it's the same network tech as the P990 theirs no reason for it not to work on their network, I think it's just they can't get their crappy homescreen rubbish on the phone IMO. Orange obviously want to really damage their business clients eh? |

I like the P1i and believe it is much better than my last P910i phone which was very bulky and had rediculous keypad. Though I thought I d never get used to the keypad, it proved me wronge and day by day I am getting faster and more accurate. Every thing works as it should be. The only thing that I hope will change it the variety of 3rd party software - esp. the medical side- here I am comparing it to WM which has lots of software-free and reasonably priced. The only drug reference i saw was £43, isnt it pricey or am I stingy? |

Take a look at www.mobipocket.com - maybe there you can find a cheaper drug reference. The mobipocket reader works fine on the P1 |

Thnx Dominique. eBooks are fine but ref. programs are a way more versatile and interactive.
I think the P1 build quality is the best ever possible. |

Since I have not had a Walkman Phone before, Can anyone compare the sound quality of P1i with something like W850i or W580i? I am concerned with sound quality not usablity; thnx. |

Hi there,
for those of you who don't really know what to expect from an UIQ phone in genral and a P1 in particular, here is a pretty good test, well written, which gives a good idea of what it feels like to own a P1 when you come from WM, Palm or a 'classic' phone.

Regarding sound, the quality is not great IMO.
The SE equaliser presets are pretty useless. Megabass makes the phone a bit louder but distorts on the bass, especially using the DS-970 BT headset.
The inbuilt speaker is quite good, but the overall multimedia volume using wired headphones or BT is exceptionally low and you need to bear that in mind.
It's OK in an empty room, but on a bus or train even at max it's not nearly anywhere as good as the P910i.
Another bug is that if you have a lot of MP3 files in one directory it takes ages for the first track to start playing using the inbuilt player.
LCG Jukebox is far better, but volume is lower still but at least the EQ built in to that is better and configurable.
I guess the whole thing here is Sony's obsession with volume caps to protect hearing. It really pisses me off because all the UIQ2 phones had excellent volume and now the UIQ3 ones are pitifully low. |

Thnx Kradcliff, I think UIQ3 needs a sound a once-over by SE. |

I have to ask how loud you want it! My phone is plenty loud enough thanks. If you want a music-orientated phone you should buy a Walkman branded phone. Oh and I have really bad tinnitus from previous noise exposure so I'd suggest if you don't to make sure you don't at any cost! Listening to ridiculously loud music is a surefire way of increasing your chances of getting tinnitus. You don't have any warning you know, it just starts as if someone has flicked a switch.
