In places where porting has been implemented, we see where there are no charges and we see where fees are charged.
We can only wait to see what direction the NCC will take in our own case.
This is the time Guys like Brix need to make an entrance. I think number portability is near two years old in ZA.
By the way, what "problem" is the NCC trying to solve with this number portability issue? Are Nigerian subs complaining about CHOICE? I have FOUR GSM SIM cards for heaven sakes!
I think Engr Ndukwe just wanted to make a landmark statement to celebrate the 4th Year of the NCC Consumer Paliarment. Something earth-shaking like Soludo's brilliant naira redom idea.
What we need is the power sector to be fixed so that the Telcos would stop giving us excuses for keeping tariffs high.
What we need is broadband net access EVERYWHERE in the major cities.
What we need is NIGCOMSAT privatised and given a Telecoms license ASAP so that we can see how they perform.

Tried it a few times, but never got it to work. Sorry. I eventually got tired of trying and threw away the idea.

@coola: You might want to read this bit from MTN's South African website about number porting. AFAIK there aren't any fees involved. For obvious reasons you won't be able to change your network when you're in the middle of contract with your current provider.

Reltel is experimenting with Ibadan as tney currently operate an off-on network. I'm wondering if anybody here can give me their short codes for balance inquiry etc? Do they have an IVR like MTN's 180/181? What is their customers service number?
Meanwhile,I visited their website! I think it is a disgrace, no info whatsoever? The CEO of that company must be smoking an excessive amount of the wrong weeds! |

@adrusa, Reltel's short codes for balance enquiry is 222, follow the voice prompt or dial *333* and wait for a text message, for customer care dial 111. |

Typical of almost all Telco websites. Glo changes their site ONCE a year. The best is MTN and (these days) Celtel.

To Abu and other UIQ3 device owners:
There is a new user interface launcher called GDesk. It is an alternative program launcher and it rocks!!
I installed it on my W950 and in less than 45 minutes I configured two pages to launch my apps.
Go to My Symbian UIQ3 forum for details and download link. |

A woman had been sitting by her sick husband's bed, watching and praying for his recovery but he continued to get worse and she continued to loose hope. After some days, the man was so weak, he cud barely move any part of him.The local doctor came around and announced to her that her husband was dead. Ofcourse, she screamed and wept bitterly but the supposedly dead husband, on hearing that, summoned enough strength to speak and told his wife: 'Darling don't mind him, I'm not dead yet'. She replied' shut up. Do you know better than the doctor? |

@brym: i will try to check it out. But i dont get the buzz abt the launcher. Is it some kinda short cut or what? I will give you my report.
P990 UPDATE
I have officially gone into the bug zone. After loading enough apps, filling my mem card with music and running multiple apps simultaneously, i get a few sys freeze and complaints of low mem. Good news is that the fake 128M mem card i bought last year works on it. Just had to reformat. Pity the price i got it then could have gotten me a 2 gig today. But at least it wasnt a total waste! |

@brym: this alternative apps launcher for uiq3 u talked about, what are its benefits over the traditional built-in launcher?
Since u successfully installed it on ur w950i l guess it will work on m600i.
@Coola: nice one

@amby: Yes, it works with the m600i. With Gdesk u can place more than 20 programs on the standby screen with links to the folders. This saves you so many taps to get to a program or application.
Apart from the P1, other uiq3 touch screen devices have just five applications on the default launcher.
Besides you can customize it to your taste. |
