I'm afraid there was little to see at e-nnovate this year. The expo hall was half empty. MTN had Blackberries on display; not even those being used by their staff were configured and working; plus they want me to ditch my superior E61i for a more expensive but by far inferior Blackberry device in order to be able to use their service. Laughable and pathetic.
Etranzact was there as usual, the account I applied for early last year still un-opened!
Oh, and there was the usual talks - which I didn't bother to attend.
I'll spare you the rant that has been playing in my head all day since driving out of MUSON Centre this afternoon.

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway. Nothing is moving. Suddenly a man knocks on the window. The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What's going on? the man responded "Militants have kidnapped, OBJ, IBB, Atiku, Buhari, Tony Anenih, Ahmadu Ali, Dariye, Nnamani, Odili, Ibrahim Mantu, Tinubu, Kalu, Ibori and Igbinedion. They're asking for a $500 million ransom. Otherwise they're going to douse them with petrol and set them on fire. So, we're going from car to car, taking up a collection." The driver asks, "How much is everyone contributing, on the average?" the man responded "About a litre of petrol and a stick of matches."

Congrats are in order to all members of the PNF family on finally breaching 8000 posts.
May the thread go from strength to strength.
More Congratulations...
GSM was 6 years old in Nigeria on 8th of August. Without it, there would be no GPRS and no WAP and not PNF.
CDMA Guys Reltel hit 500,000 subscribers last week. Starcomms better watch their back. Multi-links better seat up.

Now, I would like to hear your views about the Chinese Phones. I saw one the other day with a TV Tuner that also had mp3, mp4 videos, touch screen and really wide, colourful screen. In fact, the model seemed to have facilities for dual SIM but my friend couldn't activate it. Price? 23k in Lagos. (Imagine a Nokia with TV, that would be in the 150k range!)
I think it is time one of U gets one and put it to test for the rest of us. For example, how can it be configured for web/wap browsing since the manual is all chinese?? Because browsing with that screen will be something else.
AYA, over to u....

SE has really gotten me to wonder whether I still have my senses straight!!! I got my P990 and decided to use it for a while and see what all the "bugs" everyon has been complaining about. Apart from a system freeze when playing the VJ Singh golf game I didnt see any. Thats how I now decided to Update it and...... there is no software on the CD for the Update Service. So I think,"No problem, just go to the site and download there", right? WRONG!!! Went to the software page under support and dont see it there. It took very careful wording before I could get it from thier search engine and it still takes me back to the same software page. Do I need glasses? I cant find a single link to down load the Update Service package. Can it be embedded in the PC Suite they have online? Im downloading it now to see if its there. Hope it doesnt conflict with the one I have installed already.
If anyone knows where the link to just the updater is give me a shout!!!!

@abu: Congrats on your new phone O! How far? Were you able update the firmware with the latest release? How is the P990 performing generally? Has performance finally matched price? Please share your experience so far. |

@area & pxt: I beg make una lef abu alone. Just as you guys are Nokia freaks so also are abu and amby. Someone has to keep the SE flag flying here.
I will consider the W950 when it hits N25K inspite of the bugs, virus, mosquitoes, bacteria and HIV in it.
@Coola: Those Chinese phones are loaded but they don't look durable to me.I don't think the software and hardware can withstand the stress I will put them through in 1 year.

I will stay away from those phones for several reasons
1.) Though hardware looks okay, software and implementation are totally mediocre.
2.) They are certainly produced by some third-rated barely legal, possibly underground makers which means poor or no certification and no quality checks. The SAR of those handsets may be in the roofs!
3.) No support. When it drops in water (or shit), you are unlikely to get parts.
4.) Poor build quality and really perform as advertised. |
