For those who were discouraged by the N115k opening price of Sonyericsson's P1, don't despair. The price is crashing fast. Current price is N90K.

It isn't a question of being discouraged. SE is just not getting it right. Even after the price has stabilised, I can imagine - from precedence - that the P1i will still cost significantly more than say the E61i. It is partly that kind of absurdity that is killing SE.
SE used to provide good value for money. A few years back, you could get an Ericsson phone with an awesone feature list for the price of an over-priced and featureless Nokia. It was one reason why I loved Ericsson then. Now you have to pay through your nose for an SE than you do for an equally (or in some cases more) capable Nokia.
That, it is said, is how the cookie crumbles.

Congrats are in order to all members of the PNF family on finally breaching 8000 posts.
May the thread go from strength to strength. Me, I'm an occassionally lurker and love how the conversation has developed over the years from call chargers to wireless broadband access in Nigeria.

snoop! Glad to have you around anytime. Cheers!
@all: heard about Glo's new licence in Benin Republic? And of MTN Benin's suspension? I have full details on my blog' if interested.
The crazy part is that Glo is expected to launch services within the next fifty-something days!

Thanks for that explanation AYA. SE phones have been getting much more expensive of late while Nokias are more affordable. I guess that's why I never bought the k800i. When I can get a Nokia with better features at that price. It's only phones that have failed woefully that gets cheaper from SE. |

Sad as it may seem, I have to agree with you guys on this SE issue, but you will agree with me that despite the initial high launch prices of SE phones, the price quickly settles into a more affordable range. I'm so addicted to that its really very difficult to switch camp. I'm going to wait for the W960 to fall to the N40k range (which should happen sometime in March 2008) but if I get impatient, by December I might just try out this "Mystical and magical Nokia E61i" Its just the wide form factor that irks me.
I'm not a flip phone fan, otherwise I woulda been interested in the N76.

@amby: After playing with the N95 once, I couldn't walk away from the impression of why Nokia made people pay so much for the flimsy-feeling cheap plastic finish! I thought it would age terribly too.
You should see how good looking my over 1-year old E61 is at the moment. The E61i has an even classier finish. The N95 casing is just....! It should have come with the kind of class the iPhone oozes, if you get my drift.

I really haven't seen the iPhone live, so can't comment on its look or feel, BUT the OS is awesome. Pity its still a long way off from being readily available. Even if it were, I doubt I'd be willing to buy one. (I'd sure appreciate a gift of it though)

Methinks the price of the P1 will find its level at 60k in a couple of months. By December, it should be cheaper than the Nokia E61i. This week PTV @ Saka Tinubu is selling the P1 for 80K.
The 4 gig W950 is the bargain smartphone for now going for 33.5K at the same store. The P990? ...hanging tight at 39.5k. |

About 38k and 53k respectively.
@Artwales: if you go back a few pages someone mentioned seeing the Z8 and I think also quoted a price.

@AYA: I did, it turned out that it was the Z3 that was advertised at Park and Shop and not the Z8.
I'll enquire about the Z8 from other VI stockists tommorow if I am a little bit free.

if you all could remember i said that the plastic finish looked a little sweaky to me when i first bought/used my N95, really it's a pity nokia could use such cheap plastic. but the content inside the fone over the total size of the fone is superb. |
