@AYA: That's true! Cabir, tranfered by bluetooth has been around for two years now and it affects symbian phones; basically draining the battery or so.

I saw the E90 a couple of days back with one of our visiting directors. IT IS TOO BULKY. I was actually expecting the same slim size of the 9300.

@coola: Starcomms' cdma1x goes btwn 54-144kb/s. if you want faster speeds (tho i doubt any PTO matches that) you can wait for EVDO which gives 300kb/s - 2.4mb/s. when evdo comes out is anyone's guess.

@all: is Celtel still giving gprs service in Abj? i have never seen the signal on my phone. never!

@abu: 0802 lines do connect to gprs for data services. I've helped to configure more than five 0802 lines.
The issue now is that Celtel has stopped the provisioning of prepaid lines for gprs.

Bought mine (black) for N31k at DSCL Adeola Odeku.

@Aya: I guess you're right, about the virus stuff, cos I left the Bluetooth on. But I don't remember accepting any files. Odd thing is that someone lent me the phone to use before I got a replacement, now I can't return it with the "virus" I don't have the data cable so can't back up before resetting, and I'm not willing to buy one.

@abu: I think the P990 is a better deal. More features and a better qwerty keypad. Price should be 38k to 48K. Just have a feel of both phones before buying.

(A)YAnga de sleep, trouble de come wake am! Ignore him bro! I had read where AYA wrote about his one indulgent every year in his site. It is his brand new phone!

@Abu Starcomms keep yapping about its EVDO as if it is already live o. Are U saying it is not available in Abuja? I also want to know if specific phones are used to enjoy the "broadband" speeds.

@ all: What about the W950...I can't afford the P990,besides its quite bulky."Why not wait for the P1?" you might ask.Its probably going to be more unaffordable(for me that is). I really like the M600 the way it is but the lack of WiFi is just annoying.P990 is still the only WiFi enabled phone from SE's stables. If it were only possible to add WiFi cabability.
The Z8 is another nice phone runnig UIQ but its just as expensive if not more (when it does become available in EMEA).
I guess M600 it is(when it reaches the more fanimorous N25k range).

I like the M600 but certainly wouldn't buy it because of the lack of a dedicated call and drop button. A lack of this feature means the screen will wear out fast because I have to touch it everytime I want to make a call because I suffer from a severe case of sweaty palms. Besides, imagine how many times you have to redial in Nija due to poor networks. Same reason I won't buy the P1, W960 or iphone.

Starcomms EVDO is live in Lagos, but even here, the coverage is selectively restricted. Even then, they do not have EVDO modems available at the moment. "Out of stock", they say...

As for phones, forget it. EVDO on Starcomms is currently available only via PCMCIA cards and USB modems. Even common CDMA 1x at the moment - you cannot get a new connection via mobile phones. You either go desktop phone or PCMCIA card.
