Its also available at Goldhill... I went there today and asked them if I can upgrade my T68i, but they say that the upgrade they are doing now is for T68m>i so I had no choice but to upgrade my T39 only... I don't know if T68mc can be done, but as our friend here got a first hand experience then I think they can't... Yes you need the warranty or they will charge $20.60... Oh and the person I talked to is Jasmin... Anyway those out there with T68i and want to upgrade the sw for your T68i, don't waste your time unless you want to see the gals there or else unless your sw is giving you problems then you should go down and upgrade the sw if not it is not advisable to do it... Take care and have a nice day... It seems the people there very stressed... |

I will be going down tomorrow. Talked to Agnes of goldhill today. According to her, even without a warranty card, just bring down the reciept will do. And the manual and cd rom will be collected another day.

huni> Firstly you need a CD rom to installed into the pc. Formerly I am using a T39 CD rom but compatible to T68 to install. The cable is RS 232 DRS 10. It can synchronised your phone book, calendar, appt date
from pc to handphone or vice-versa. It even allowed you to add and delete contact from your sim card. I am using the desk top type of pc which do not have bluetooth capability.

the t68i vs t68m
The widely-anticipated Sony Ericsson T68i was launched in April, an upgraded version of the Ericsson T68. A month later, the two close--almost kissing--cousins are doing battle in the shops. Both models boast a similar set of powerful features, including 256-color, General Packet Radio Services (GPRS), triple band technology, and Bluetooth.
So if you're looking for a T68, which variant should you get? Apart from the obvious design differences, CNETAsia takes an in-depth look at the features that distinguish the two.
Messaging
The major improvement in the Sony Ericsson T68i is in the messaging department. Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), which allows pictures and sound to be exchanged between compatible handsets, is the much-heralded addition. Less obvious are the numerous small but thoughtful enhancements to the implementation of plain text messaging:
More information is provided on outgoing SMS messages in the T68i. Messages that have been successfully sent are marked with ticks, while messages that failed to get through are denoted with crosses.
With the T68i, you can now set the formatting for your messages. The size, style and alignment of the text can be customized.
By viewing the memory status of the T68i, you can view the amount of storage left for phone and SIM card. This option is not available with the T68.
The T68mc, which supported Chinese text input, removed T9 predictive text. With the T68i, users can have both Chinese text input and predictive text. There seems to be no trade-offs.
The T68i offers SMS chat, the mobile version of ICQ, which was not present in the T68m.
When new messages are received with the phone memory more than 80 percent filled, the T68i alerts the user.
On the downside, the SMS alert tone of the T68i is hardly audible compared to the T68.

Themes and graphics
The T68i comes with five pre-installed graphic themes, including Classical, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. You can also create your own themes online on wap.sonyericsson.com or download more via WAP.
The drawback of the T68 is that only one background picture can be saved on the phone at each time. The T68i, on the other hand, allows dozens of background pictures can be stored, only limited by the available memory on the phone. The T68i also comes with a picture editor for you to create your own pictures.
Phonebook
With the original T68, users were asked to provide the first and last names when adding contacts. The T68i instead combines the two fields into one, making it less confusing and easier to search for contacts.
Organizer
Notes can be posted onto the screen of the T68i, much like a Post-It pad. So whenever the phone is on standby mode, the user is able to see the note and reminded of the message.
Miscellaneous
The T68i's ringtone composer is more graphical, using a virtual music keyboard instead of the previous text-based display. More than seven downloaded ringtones can now be saved on the phone, while more than half an hour's worth of voice recordings can be stored.
Instead of the four games found on the original T68, the T68i offers nine, namely Arimona, Contrary, Four piles, Naval fleet, North territory, Wuziqi and Yukon Struggle. However, the hidden games in the T68 are gone.
An improvement with the T68i is the enhanced keypad lock. When you receive a call while the key lock is activated, the phones locks itself upon termination of the call.
Price
As previously mentioned, both phones are currently available on the market. At the M1 Shop, the T68 is on sale for S$618 (with a two-year plan), while the T68i goes for S$80 more. Sony Ericsson has promised a software upgrade for the T68 that transforms it into a T68i, which will be available towards the middle of the year. The company has yet to determine the cost of the upgrade, if any.
Conclusion
For first time users, the T68i is highly recommended as the difference in price is justified by the additional features. But for existing users of T68, you might want to wait for the MMS software upgrade, rather than venturing out to get a brand new T68i. Overall, Sony Ericsson deserves credit for improving on a powerful device, making it even better.

Thanx TonyG. By the way, how much does it cost in the market, i've asked but the seller said "$180". I think that is overcharged. |
