LOL! Already checked Masseur.

Looks more and more likely that I'm going to have to suss out a way of sending it back to Apple Italy for a replacement.

But apparently I would need to send it to a residential address in Italy, who would then have to send it to Apple. Who would then have to send it back to a resisidential address in Italy. Who could then send it back to me!!!!

WOW!!!

surely Apple have an EU (if not worldwide) warranty?

can't you just tell them here that you bought it while on holiday?

the only problem might be having a receipt, but then you'll have that problem if you send it back to Italy too I guess

Really? Mine still doesnt work, and o2 havent provisioned it on my account. I asked them to do it once, but obviously they didnt do it right. Can send, just cant receive

@scouser_75 I feel for you, i really do! Of all the people, it would happen to you wouldn't it. Is there any chance of getting the receipt from the seller, or at least seeing if he/she can do something for you?

Oddly enough they don't have even EU wide warranty. The warranty only applies to country of purchase!

And almost as odd, I do actually have a receipt My one possible life-line - I hope!?!?!?

I really do like Apple products. But at the same time I really do not like the way they deal with post purchase customers. I mean, most big companies offer worldwide warranties. So why not Apple. I could kind of understand why they don't do it for the iPhone (people buying unlocked phones from Italy etc etc). But they don't do it for other products either!

I'm not saying this just because of my iPhone experience, but because of other stuff that happened to several friends of mine when they bought Apple products.

I swore then that I would not buy another Apple product - even though I do like my Mac to bits! And if they don't resolve this matter for me I may abandon them for sure.

I need principles

Have you tried just taking it back in to the Apple Store and explaining the situation to them, that you bought it whilst on holiday etc and that you need it returning to Italy. Perhaps they might arrange to send it back to Apple Italy for you for a charge or whatever. Worth asking maybe

yup. But they just dont want to know. Which is the annoying thing.

I explained that I would pay the total cost of sending both ways, and also that it made sense going via Apple as they could explain the entire situation. But they flatly refuse to do so as it was against T&C.

I think it's because they really do not want people to use unlocked phones!

bummer. Only options i guess are trying to contact the person you bought it off and see if they can sort it out, but that'd mean giving the phone back to them and could be a bit risky. Unless there's a respected member on here from Italy that you could entrust to sort it out.

Other than that - keep an eye out for a cheap easyJet flight!!

Have you tried phoning an Apple Store in Italy?

Would taking Apple Care avoid these issues?

I would assume once you have bought Apple Care no matter where you bought the product from should allow you to get Apple Service.

I only ask, as Argos sell Apple Care.

Well, an update on my dire situation

After a massive struggle, I managed to get one very nice lady at Apple Customer Services to arrange for my phone to be sent back to Italy for repair. BUT I would have to pay fully for the delivery to and from Italy She asked me to take it to the App Store Regent Street to see if they'd agree to send it for me if I paid them.

So I took it into Apple Store Regent Street Also saw a Genius. The Genius dude was quite nice. But when I spoke to the manager, it was a different story altogether. It seemed like the manager thought he owned Apple, and came out with sarcastic remarks such as "why would I want to send the phone back for you?". "what would I gain from doing this for you". I kept telling him that I was prepared to pay for both deliveries, and the only reason I was asking them to send it for me was so that the repairer in Italy knew exactly what was wrong with the phone. But the manager was absolutely menacingly rude.

But to cut a very loooooong story short, the phone is now on its way back to Italy. It will hopefully be fully repired or replaced and back with me in 2 weeks(ish).

The guy who I bought the phone from said theres no way I get a refund off him. But he has said that he'll pay something towards the delivery cost. I just hope he stands by his word.......

Well well...

Thanks for the update. I really hope you get this sorted out quickly. It must leave a nasty taste in your mouth after spending so long debating to let go of that much moolah.

As for the kn*b-end in the Apple Shop, unfortunately the title of Manager goes to some peoples heads too much and they think the rule the roost. I'm sure Mr Jobs wouldnt like his staff speaking to people like that!

yes, make sure you report back here to let us know how it went!

Will do mate.

As for the n0b head manager - I realised after I'd walked out of the store that he had actually broken the law in a way! I asked for a print out of all the notes they made on my faulty handset. he turned round and said there was no way they'd let me have these notes as they were soley for their purpose.

But I forgot to inform him of the Personal Information act. And as I'd registered the iPhone with Apple I was entitled to any notes they made on the product!!!

May take this up with Apple soon. But right now I just want my phone back (sound like a little kid now dont I : D )

Is there a difference in the amount of ram available to Safari between the iphone and the ipod touch? Or could it be the different firmwares?

My iphone on fw 1.3 can display this page with every single picture but the touch on 2.1 cant.

Anyone with a iphone on 2.0+ fw want to try this link out to see if Safari displays every single pic?

I'm not getting this no worldwide warranty thing. I thought Apple products did have that? I had an ipod touch that I bought in America a couple of years ago. It developed a fault when I updated it to the Version 2.0 software which on googling turned out to be a common one. Booked an appointment with a Genius at the Apple Store in Brent Cross and after trying and failing to fix it he just replaced it with a brand new one for me, no questions asked. Is this not standard practice then?
