Hello.. I looked at inwarehouse.se today and saw new price and release date for the w960i and realized a thing or two..
I have to pay 600 euros (thats like buying 2 iPhones) for ONE w960i and it's going to be released almost at same time as the IPhone.
w960i isn't made of metal case like most of the premium phones (like P1/Prata/Iphone) but still will cost more than any of them
Another thing is that SE doesn't announce the release data even 1 week before huge resellers date (inwarehouse are big), this means 2 thinks, they have lousy marketing and the phone will be buggy (Look at apple, they never screw this things up).
I believe W960i is one of the MOST important launches in SE:s history due to the IPhone/LG Prada/N95 phenomena, and they are delayed? Again?
Also The Windows Mobile will be next OS on SE Phones... now HOW bright is that when the w960 will having the UIQ 3.0. That means an obsolete OS running on the w960i.
And that means the same sadly story as for my w800i.. No more good firmware updates due to the fact SE NEVER prioritize old firmwares and Mobile Windows means bye bye UIQ 3.0
I'm starting to believe buying a w960 will result in a very very expensive plastic phone with obsolete OS and Firmware and thats a bad deal!
And it looks like the IPhone will be launched before Christmas in Sweden.

Btw, Inwarehouse.se is selling the w910i now.
The w910 and w960 were announced at the same time so this means officially that the w960 is delayed. |

Yes, Inwarehouse.se is re-announcing the 3:rd of December, and higher price as well (for 622 Euro/880 USD).
IPhone cost 399 dollars so I get 2 IPhones for the price of one w960i (with now Oboslete UIQ 3.0 and plastic case)
Did I say that IPhone might be released with Telia/Telenor before christmas in Sweden?
Guess my girlfriend ain't getting any christmas gifts this year.. |

Sorry, but I think that UIQ isn't obsolete.
Iphone is OBSOLETE. It can't run any application! No messenger, no video, anything!
It's wonderful to see, nothing more. |

Well, I personally don't believe that SE will support 2 platforms at once when SE is going for Windows Mobile. The maintaining cost is to high, especially when they don't support firmwares for phones that are 1 year old or even less (as for the popular w800 model).
More and more manufactures are moving to Windows Mobile..

I'm not too keen on iPhone, but have in mind the price and the possibility that "next P1/w960" phone might be a Windows Mobile phone. |

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed.

Grete review! The screen is disappointing I must say.. and the OS is slow...
so buying this phone is buying a SE Phone only for the UIQ 3.0.. I believe the P1 is a fair better choice if you're not looking into Walkman + UIQ. |

bobbie, if you TOOK the TIME to read the link that you just posted it was a contract for ONE, 1, phone from HTC, not SE's entire line ...
if youd read my link, or at least the title like your so fond of doing, youd see the SE OWNS part of symbian.

the OS is not obsolete, your reading comprehension however is up for debate.
the iphone is a status symbol, thats it.

I'll agree UIQ is not obsolete; to many functions & applications available and developers still dedicated to the platform.
iPhone is NOT OBSOLETE. It introduced a paradigm - full touch screen and sensor input. Highly innovative; even bringing back a technology long abandoned by Ericsson ... the earpiece proximity for handset to speaker phone. 1 million plus sales for a NEW phone and Computer company's entry into the market place = NOT obsolete. Can the same be said for all the other small manufacturer's that are NOT OEMs? No.
Just because its OS is not as open as you like does NOT mean it isn't an OS. The iPhone's OS is truely an OS .... a stripped down OS and Apple has locked down the Terminal (access to FreeBSD part of Darwin). How do you think its consistently hacked so quickly after each firmware update? Please don't let your ignorance to a desktop OS cloud your judgement about their phone, nor even allow you to spread FUD about it. Btw, there are 3 IM applications available for it; and it most CERTAINLY CAN run video ... in better quality than any phone SE's made to date! Also in a higher resolution. Please open your mind go to Apple.com's site and READ what it CAN do before you state what it cannot. Don't get me wrong - I cannot stand the iPhone - but I'm not blind to see that its a VERY capable device. Its locked down to prevent ppl hacking its OS and then holding APPle responsible for it. They'll open it up in the near future - and I'll bet they'll sell another million (non 3G units) before December 31st.
Don't think for a moment that M$ Windows Mobile (Smartphone/ Professional) is because you'd be wrong - they dont use open standards to code applications for it and Java while available needs to be run in an emulation (launched by the user 1st).

Well to throw in my .02 the i-phone struggled to make the million sales that it did, even microsoft fest up to that, so to say that it will make another million in sales before the holidays are up is hopeful at best. Yes the i-phone was inovative with its UI. Yes every one is now scrambling to make a phone that is touch based to compete, but other than UI the i-phone doesnt do what it was made to do well. Its got a sub par camera, its music playback quality is questionable and dont even talk about messaging on it. What is the point of buying one other than to say "look at me i have a shiny new toy". Im not saying that in future generations the i-phone wont be worth buying but as it stands now its just a luxury play thing.

no one questioned its ability to playback video. what was said was that it cannot RECORD video, please.
the iPhone is not a capable device, its phone service is not even that great, ie reception, call volume, is damn near unforgivable.
also remember when it came out ppl were shelling out 600$ usd to get one, just as a status symbol, when they dropped the price and lowered the price/barrier of entry that status fell, i dont think that ppl were upset that they lost their money (they made that decision already) they were upset that they lost exclusivity of their precious toy. it had nothing to do with economies of scale, it was a company abusing a false hype, they created.
the fact that you have to pay to have your mp3s turned into ringtones on a phone whose orgins are proximity sensor deep in an ipod.
the processor, memory (not storage), screen are all great.
i didnt say the multitouch, thats a licensed technology.
also Apple is NOT, i repeat THEY ARE NOT an OEM, by NOOOOOOO stretch of the imagination, they contract their assembly and every part of their devices come from 3rd parties. they have no manu plants.
aesthetically its unpleasing. the w960 looks like a phone works as a phone, it just needs a memory expansion slot, HSDPA/HSUPA, denser pixel arrangement, More colors (16mill), larger screen 3.0" bravia (which we know they have!)
