Hi guys.
Just to let you know I will be opening the 2008 rumours thread sometime this week. My router has gone down and a new one is in the post but what with the postal strike and all, who knows when it will arrive, so please bear with me as my internet access is quite limited at the moment but I will try my best to gather all the current 2008 rumours and more for the new thread this week.

Disappointments only occur with too highly set expectations;)
Yeah...and Maria (if it's called Maria) will be announced on 15. October
with some other nice handsets. This next announcement will be a very big one |

Dissapoinments will occur if the specs of the new devices are lower than the competitors.... (ui and 3,5 inches screen from iphone , GPS from Nokia, etc) |

it's not good to have GPS built in the phone! your battery than goes from 100% to 0% in a day like the N95 and i don't think this is good. |

This is still to come but you have to give SE more time.
This company exists for 6 years now. SE's competitors are active for about
15-20 years in this market segment.
SE has to consolidate its position on the market and gain more market shares.
This is only possible with a highly diversificated portfolio of particularly low-end
and mid-end mobiles.
There are still more people who can afford just these two categories, the minor part is the one that can afford high-end devices.
SE's acting is currently set to gain market share - and this has to be done smartly and not overhasty;) |

Really? And what about P800?With ONLY one year in the market ...sonyericsson had released a high end phone much better than the competitors...
High-end phones work as a commercial to a mobile company..
They show what a company is capable of...
And as for the market share...apple with iphone a really expensive phone sold 1 million pieces....in only 74 days....
So yes...many people CAN afford a REALLY good phone...
What they can't afford is bad customer service ,cheap plastics and delays....

Thanks buddy! - I've a tough act to follow.
I don't think we should be in the least bit surprised to see replacements and updates for current phones as the aim of manufacturers is to have devices for sale at 'all price points', so as to make their wares available to as many people as possible, so there will be disappointments as far as us enthusiasts (read fanboys) are concerned.
The rumoured mid-November announcement does look to me like it has been cunningly timed to steal some of the thunder away from iPhones launch date, which just so happens to be during the previous week. Lets hope the rumours around Mooi and other higher-end devices materialise around this time.

the W54S was announced this morning
WQVGA 2.8" OLED screen (u hear that right, OLED)
Qualcomm MSM7500 chipset
CDMA EVDO Rev.A
digital radio tuner
one-seg DMB tuner
3.24MP CMOS cam with AF
7x7 dots illumination outside, also displays time and events
1GB internal memory plus microSD support up to 2GB (no M2 support at all)
bundled with a special version of sonicstage (sonic stage for LISMO), allowing you to combine the music collection you bought off the phone (downloaded off EVDO) and those online (from ur computer), and stream them to sony's HiFis, via USB or A2DP. plus a far complicated system to lock those music, won't bother to go into details.
50x106x19mm 146g
you can see that the design is completely changed, once they learnt that WQVGA OLED screens were ready, and decided that the external OLED screen floating out from a mirror design is too generic. also taking other factors into account, such as production cost. The design was quite last minute, evidently what's shown at the press announcement were non-working mock-up models.
cybershot for AU is delayed
see if NTT's will make it on time
the promised WVGA UI development is not wasted, you will get to see it shortly

OLED screen + Digital TV Tuner?
Didn't Sony only announce commercial production of sizeable OLED screens last week?
I'd love to see that screen in action.
