I don't have the phone (yet) but I do have the K800 and it does have the clock that appears. I have read up lots of posts elsewhere on the net on the W850 and I read it does indeed have this same clock. Its black LCD and displays things such as time, any missed calls (Icon) etc. Pressing the volume keys on the k800 operates the back light for it. I am sure I read the W850 does this too if you touch its volume keys. |

Please type in full..
If you mean pressing the volume keys to display the date, this works.

To all W850i owners, does it have the clock standby screen without having to press any buttons to see it? Thanks!

Was just wondering: there is a little clear box on the top of the front of the phone near the memory stick slot...it looks like it should light up at some stage...when? As it has not with me...

Its a light sensor for the keypad LEDs. When it detects light it turns them off, when it doesnt, it leaves them on. Battery saving!

It is a light sensor but it works in the reverse of how Coxy described (Well. The 2 W850's I have do)
In low light the screen and keypad lights dim a little and in normal light, the screen and keypad lights are brighter (probably to reduce glare)
All due to that little clear piece on the top left of the phone
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose |

I would have thought it would have been better to be ABLE to SEE the keypad in the dark, not turn the lights off so you CANT!

I know. Thats exactly what I thought. The keypad doesn't go out completly though. It just dim's a little and everything is still visible.
Just put your finger over the sensor and you will see the brightness dim. Remove your finger and it lights up again.
