@DS: Finding games for the 9x00 is like looking for a golden egg. Its as if game developers believe that people who purchase the 9x00 series have nothing but work on their mind.
Check out http://my-symbian.com and http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk for apps and games available for the commie series.

Very true, the best game for the 9500 has to be Nokia Pro Tour Golf. Shame they don't produce anymore games really, communicators aren't just all work as Aya quite rightly pointed out.

Perception is everything.
The communicator line is for & represents the mobile professional - the executive, realtor, corporate sales force, entreprenuer, network administrator, programmer, etc.
Now if you fit into this category then you will be looking for the power of what the communicator offers. However, if you do find time to play games while on a plane or limo drive to your next client/meeting then its up to you to email Nokia, post on as many S80 forums as possible, demanding that new apps or games be ported to your platform of choice.
case in point; programmers hated using the Ngage for playing games because of its design or because of its limitations compared to other S60 phones. They hacked the launcher, and many users followed in using the launcher to, well, test games, and play purchased games. Then ROMS became so widespread, that it began to slightly hurt Nokia. I say slightly because people were buying 6600/6620 or higher tier phones for their needs and also playing hacked Ngage games. The lack of Ngage unit sales hurt that particular Nokia department, but not Nokia entirely. However it did begin to hurt their partners, creators of the Ngage games, so Nokia did what the could with patches & eventually saw what was already happening to market the idea as an Ngage gaming engine for higher tier S60 phones. There are more of them, and their partners saw the huge potential. Demand created the change needed.
Same principle here ladies & gents. Demand more from your communicator. Nokia doesnt sell as nearly as much communicators as they do the S60 models BUT its their image, their professionalism to deliver the best product for those that need it. It isnt gonna be absorbed nor discontinued at current sales rate. Nokia has put extreme focus on the S60 & now even the S40 lineup. But the S80 isnt forgotten, so demand more!!
Remember you people have the disposable income that programmers are looking for so demand the apps & they'll come, just announce it anywhere & everywhere you can.
UIQ users have faired well in this respect. So I recommend, suggest for you to do the same.
Cheers & positivity! |

One of the few niggles I have with the Nokia engineers is the omission of auto-retrieval of email on the communicator series.
My business depends on email to the core and we pride ourselves as having the shortest email response times for thousands of miles around.
As such, I had to look around for solutions to that problem. I have found and tried a few apps, including:
- AutoMail - ProfiMail - MailX, and - SEVEN Always-On Mail
What mail auto-retrieval solution for the 9500/9300 have you settled for, and why?

Must say I miss that feature from my P900 days, and don't use any app on my 9500 for auto retrieval as I use my K700i for that. Which would you reccomend Aya?

It all depends on your needs, I believe.
I personally do not like ProfiMail much because it renders the 9500's built-in mail system redundant. its a completely independent application.
MailX seems to have been discontinued, as I can't find any info about it on its owners' site.
Automail is good and is a fully-functional shareware, but no notifications.
SEVEN Always-on Mail is fine: notifications; but only one account can be configured. Again, while it has some integration with the 9500 mail system, it still manages mails separate from it. Meaning that if you uninstall the app, your mails are gone too (like ProfiMail)

I am sticking with AutoMail for good. 2 days ago I wanted to purchase a licence for ProfiMail, but Handango rejected my order, saying that "your country is on the US export prohibition list". Lousy nitwits.
I am never going to patronise Handango for anything even if they ever change that policy. There are many more sensible people out there who deserve my money. Their loss.
AutoMail is it for me, and I'll be sending Steve Litchfield my honest money for a great job. He's got plenty of free and great Symbian apps, if anyone is interested (and I recommend you send him a donation if you do use any of his free/shareware).

Talking of games on the 9500: Move over ProTourGolf! Enter C2Doom!!
Play Doom on this new port to s80 in the presence of anyone and they'll go buy a 9500 the next day
The thread for this game is here: http://mobile.esato.com/viewtopic.php?topic=98385&forum=3
