But thats the point. Right now there are not many low/medium end models with decent mp3 capabilities. The development and collaboration of the "walkman" project will enable  to bring to market a uniqe product yet again to adress the very point we are discussing.
This time i am sure they will pack a punch especially with the new memory stick / built in memory capacities. Nobody is denying the fact that an iPod will be a better solution, infact a dedicated(stand alone) mp3 player is the best device for mp3's. If you are an audiophile you will understand what i mean by that.
BUT...this is a multifuntion device...and like in any multifunciton device there will always be compromises...and you can't please all consumers out there...therefore the segmented approach to consumer electronics. I admit its a vicious circle!

@hyper, i understand your view point. It is a compromise, but i'm only telling that, these cheap s60 devices with mem capabilities will be a better option than the walky series. Or like wise, the p910 will be a good option. Than these. I really hope, SE doesnt solely concentrate on this.

In the history of advertising, there is nothing that can beat the walkman. The work of the creative heads then, even now make a very big impact. These things are actually called personal stereo players and only a sony's personal stereo is called a walkman. The success of the ad is so huge, even any of the personal stereo players are now called walkman(be it any brand)

By the time these new handsets are released the prices would have dropped significantly on the Pxxx series and that would make it accessible to the masses.
However, new technology will always attract more attention...so who knows whats in store. It does not mean that will ditch everything else in a good quality phone, i think they are just being innovative and kick starting the race to get the most out of one device.
They did it with camphones...now they are going to do it with Walkman phones...so u will have a Walkman camphone! So lets just see how they convey this concept across.

if they wanna it to a success, like some1 mentioned, they should put their walky phone into clara, that way one gets the best of the 3 worlds and not necessarily one or two.

I don't think they want to make a product like that just yet, since one half of already has a similar device: the PSP...just add a mobile phone and u have really decent gadget.

The ngage is now out of production. When ngage came, it had high hopes, but some how it flopped and is now out of the charts. I just hope that it doesnt have a had ending like that.
