Lots of people express a desire for a phone made from alloy, or other metal, well problem is that most metals (aluminium in particular) have a low ambient temperature causing lots of condensation when the phone is held in warm hands/ also from breath when we speak into it, which would mess up the electronics very easily.
its why window frame manufacturers stopped using steel & aluminium, they use PVC because it's ambient temperature is close to that of wood.
So plastic is ideal & easy to mould, but we are all getting tired of the silver paint coming off & the creaking aren't we.

I think wood (not straight from a tree, but a wood/glue mix similar to MDF) is very likely to come back into use. it is seen as more "green" & replenishable, whereas plastic is a fossil fuel offshoot..................

Oh alright then.....

CUSTARD !!

@pachy

Perhaps chipboard will be the next big thing in mobile phone manufacturing.

aluminum would be nice (like on the T610) only if it isn't attractive to fingerprints...

Plastic cases are used nowadays because of the internal antenna design. If metals cases are used, it will stop the signal from coming out or going in to the phone.

It should be a combination of different conductive and non-conductive materials IMO.
resistance is futile.

Hi all, I've always tried to go for the "metal" cased phones, like the Nokia 8850, Motorola V600 etc, this is my first SE (p910i) and the only thing that annoys me about it is the fact it is all plastic! I think carbon fibre would be a good idea, with a bit of magnesium thrown in for good measure, maybe for the keys or something!

Yeah, I agree with the signal problems, but I agree that the metal would be great in a phone, so much more firm, and well produced than a form of oil, from the sea, which creaks, scratches, and ends up a bit scruffy....

Although I have to admit that the battery cover on the K700i is a very good metal reproduction, and it feels good in the hand.

I love the idea of metal in phones, but with the input on signal, and condensation problems, could cause it to become overly an unatractive proposition even if it is better looking!

Anyway, how about Sponge?

Could work, but did you know that "Chipboard" is not actually made from chips at all. it contains absolutely NO Potato.
