maraschino cherry is only used as garnish. @kimcheeboi is right about the grenadine syrup but I was looking for the fruit used for making grenadine...

That could be a good substitute, but I haven't tried that since grenadine is very easy to find. 
I don't know if @Vlammetje will agree if you put cherry syrup on her Tequila Sunrise instead of grenadine

Some legends have it that Dido (= Elissa) was sister of King Pygmalion of Tyre. Nopt sure if that is what you're aiming at. regardless there is no 'proof beyond doubt' anyway  but there are a few stories that describe it that way.

@blackspot grenadine is made from pomegranate, but most people generally assume it is cherry. I believe this is what you are looking for. And if so I don't think anyone said it yet. |
