i've got the v800 at home at the moment and playing around with it and must say, that its pretty good ... but there are 2 things bothering me at the moment ... the screen and the keypad ... having the vodaphone menu the screen even looks worse than z1010 and really not even slightly comparable to s700 ... the buttons on the keypad look cool, but aren't really nice to press ... they lie about 1/2mm beneath the housing and you always first touch the housing when pressing a key
the menu is upgraded a bit ... the pop-up windows move into the screen from the bottom (the same as nokia 6600) but nothing else really new at the moment. though i must say that the 3d java tennis is muuuuch faster than in s700 for example...
photo quality is also a bit worse than s700 in my opinion but neverthelss its a pretty good phone and is an "ok" evolution to the z1010
PS: as far as i know there is no software being developed for an unbranded verson ... but i'm not 1000% sure about that |

Just wondering, if there will be an unbranded version, it will be able to work in the US, right? I can use the K700 here so I dont see why not... |

But what about F500 and K500? It was initially announced as a strict Vodafone phone but unbranded version is now available. I am optimistic. *sorry if similar response was already given. I am on WAP and did not go through all the responses*

Ok I have just seen the other 3g brands that Voda will anounce...pretty slick but so far the SE is taking the cup, followed by the Sharp and then the Nokia...
Ok Vodafone has given an explanation for the numbering of the phones, right now my girlfriend is asleep (bless her) but il get her to translate what it roughly means as the website is in japanese.

the last two letters are the achronym of the brand of each phone (802se for sony ericsson, 802sh for sharp, for example). it's similar to the so505is ("so" for sony ericsson) and the rest of "505is" from other brands.
the pdf document reallysecretfox posted some posts ago clearly tells that there are two kinds of vodafone "exclusivity":
1. exclusive to vodafone
2. exclusive at launch in europe
the v800 is in the second case, and it means that the phone will eventually be available to all operators one or two months after the "exclusive" vodafone launch.
furthermore, some the original low res photos from the times this was a rumour, the photo of that swiss site and a suspicious photo i've found on vodafone's press room site (see all below) reveal that there certainly exist v800's without the vodafone branding.

by the way, notice that the v800 has a flashlight of six leds instead of the only one found in k700 and s700. this is such a great feature man... you may recall the huge difference from the integrated flashlights of the x700 and the six-led mpf-10 accesory: http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/featured.shtml#flashes

another shocking divergence - "error in the matrix" - i found comparing two photos of the side of the v800 on sony ericsson's japan site and vodafone's press room:
the press releases clearly stand that the v800 and the 802se are the same phone and that it supports memory stick duo pro so my only guess is that the vodafone photo was taken time before, maybe in a prototype phase of the development when they hadn't decided the pro support yet. that would also explain the different flashlights in the photo of my previous post.

We have a winner people!!!
Nokia eat your heart out.
I just wish they made a non-3G version. We don't have 3G here. This is the first clamshell that I really like. |
