Those who have doen the upgrade (R2L), can you get rid of the shutter sound when taking a picture by putting the phone into silent mode? Thanks.

Just updated it. Works like a charm and has retained all settings and pictures. Took about 15mins all up. Phone seems slightly quicker when navigating and entering text.

My old firmware was R2A041, and I used a DSS-25.
Everything seems cool! |

hi. i'm also trying to use a DSS-20 with my K700i for the online upgrade. my question is how do you know if you've installed the DSS-20 correctly? are there any icons or indicators to let you know that the DSS-20 is properly installed? do i need to install the K700i pc suite or just the DSS-20 drivers? btw i also saw a sync station option when i inserted the K700i cd. do i also need to install this? i just noticed that the sony ericsson logo on the DSS-20 lights up whenever i plug in my K700i but i can't seem to do anything with it. pls help. thanks! |

with regards to item no. 3 of your post, i think you can charge your phone while it is plugged in the desk synchronization stand. if you turn over your DSS you will see a power connector to plug in your charger. haven't tried it yet but i think those connectors under the DSS is for the charger. btw i'm using DSS-20. |

Used a P800 DSS-20 to upgrade from R2E to R2L yesterday (unbranded from CPW). Worked like a charm - took about an hour though, my connection is a bit slow. It seems to download two files, one is 7.5MB the other is just over 1MB. Only the shortcuts disappeared. Also noticed that the progress bar jumped from about 76% to 90 something % at the end. |

i just tried the online update service. everything went well and i encountered no errors while using the service. the thing is i already have R2L on my K700i even before i tried the online update service but some of the frames in the camera functions are missing. i sent my phone to a local SE service center for upgrade (R2E to R2L) and when they returned my unit i noticed the missing frames. i tried the online update hoping that it would get me back my missing frames but nothing happened. i was hoping to get the message that my phone already has the latest update and get the option to continue the update or cancel it but the update service continued even without prompting me. i believe masseur got a similar message because his phone is already R2L (correct me if i'm wrong here masseur). i didn't interrupt the process because it says that you should not. any inputs on this one? thanks. |

Well, I just tried updating it with a Vodafone Live Branded UK Phone. IT DOESN'T WORK!
You get the following message...
Your device is not permitted to use this service
"Your operator does not approve the usage of this service for this device.
We look forward to assist you again soon.
Thank you for using Sony Ericsson Update Service! "
So, don't bother buying the DSS SyncStation, it won't work!
Oh Well!

at which point of the online update service did you see this message:
"The software in your device is the same that will be uploaded to the device. Do you still want to cintinue? Yes or No"
I was also hoping to see this message because i already have R2L on my K700i but i just wanted to try the online update service. anyway i didn't see the above message and the online update service just continued on to "upgrade" my phone. although i did not encounter any problems or errors during the upgrade, i just want to know if what happened in my case is normal or did i miss doing anything while doing the update? btw i used DSS-20 (if this has anything to do with it). thanks in advance. you can also refer to my previous post. any inputs would be appreciated.

@j4s: Yes, you need to install the syncstation drivers off the k700 installation CD, it should work after that.
