I am surprised people think stand by time is of no issue, just imagine a small camping/sailing/hiking/skiing trip on a long weekend, something happens and our super-duper phone is out of power... I get 36 hours tops. My Nokia 6100 put under the same use was lasting a full week. Besides, just imagine, going home tired, forgetting to recharge, next day I go to work without my phone, (or use the good old Nokia 6110 I have kept for emergencies-even a 5 year old phone lasts 4 days!). Firmware is the R2A041, Vodafone Live version and I don't use animated wallpapers or "screensavers", talk less that 30 mins a day, send 4-5 SMS and as a rule, I don't play with the camera a lot, have taken less than 15 shots in my first week with the phone. So far, VF Greece knows nothing of the R2L. I wonder if it can be flashed with the original Sony firmware.

I have to admit, the battery life is about my only problem with the phone. Not being able to add as many phone numbers I like to a person and not being able to store birthdays like I could in Nokia are things I'd like to see, but the battery thing is the major one.

Planning is the key. When I go away on an extended trip I take the things that I need to make the trip enjoyable, and one of these things is a portable mobile phone battery charger. Complicated issue solved.

Next: I would like to add 1 million numbers to names within my phone. Does this sound feasible to you? You have to be realistic.

crackerjack:

i checked with SESS in Makati and they said they don't do upgrade for chinese version K700. they can accept non warranty (except units with chinese characters on the keypads) units but you have to sign a waiver and there is no guarantee that the upgrade will work. it can even destroy the phone. they claim that Sony Ericsson Phils did not provide them with any software that supports upgrade for chinese version K700i. on the other hand, semicon said they can accomodate non warranty units (even chinese version K700) but they are not sure if they can upgrade it properly. does smartnet accept chinese version K700 for upgrade? is there anyway i can get an upgrade in the Phils for my chinese version K700? i don't want to take the risk at semicon. previously i had my non warranty T68ie upgraded at sony ericsson at sm north edsa but now they only accept warranty units purchased at authorized dealers. pls help. thanks.

hello everyone.
Like all new owners of this great mob k700i i want to ask some things about firmware.
Does firmware upgrades affect stored items like pics, contacts and other?
Is there a possibility that something can go wrog by upgrading your phone?
Its a really stupid question but can i upgrade my k700 by my own if i have the actuall firmware?
Thanks!

next time try to use the SEARCH option before asking here!
no a simple upgrade will not erase any info in your phone nor pics unless you make a full flash
the flash and upgrades are available on the EMMA II server of SE and you can't download them unless you have a SE card(like credit card) that are given ONLY to SE official centers

Generally speaking, a software upgrade should not damage or change your data, but things do happen. In the old days of software updates, the entire memory was deleted and you had to reinstall everything by hand.

As for being able to do the update yourself, please not that you run the risk of damaging your phone if you are using unproven software and an incorrect upgrade proceedure.

Your data will be completely safe.

It is just flasing the OS rather than the data storage areas. Sort of like re-installing Windows and leaving the data in place.

@ Sapporobaby: For once try to understand i don't care if the battery live is 5/6 days in Stand By time my problem is 1 day with the use that a give to my phone, okay???!!!! If you don't care about charge your phone every day and you can see beside that, that's your problem. When SE announced K700, they don't advertise a very nice phone at a vire nice price, but attencion, you have to charge your battery every day! And by the way can you tell what phone have the same stand by and talking time? Because i like to buy one...

By the way sorry about the off topic...

hey goamix do you listen to talamasca on the k700?
I went to SE center today and told them about the missing frames even under the r2l installed last week,he told me that the r2l of last week which was 001 doesn't repair everything and is not complete BUT a new version 002? coming these 2 days will be more complete and would finally correct my problem,if not he will replace my k700
cross fingers...
and yes officialy the r2l gives 2x more batterie life!
as I told a simple upgrade of the phone like this r2l will not erase any data you installed but a full upgrade like the one of T68->T68i when all the inside soft was formated can hurt :s
also never try the master reset or you will loose everything

Hi, been reading the forums for a looong while now, but this is my first posting.

I've been hanging around to hear news of the K700i update, and et voila it has arrived. All the improvements sound good, no quams there, my only question is when recordinging a video and then playing back, has the quality of the video improved, i.e. less 'blocky'.

Also when taking a picture in dark conditions, are the pictures less 'grainy' than before or do they remain the same? And have SonyEricsson put in a naming feature for the radio stations like the 6230 has, although its not important but interesting to see.

Thanks in advanced to anyone who answers me
