Hello!
I tried the procedure described in this thread on my K700i and it worked. I was able to browse web pages using webviewer.
However there are some comments:
1. As I can see this procedure anables you to work only with html traffic and only from a java applet. Moreover, that applet must be started using Device Explorer. If I start webwiever directly from mobile it refuses to work.
2. There is no way to use this crutch in preinstalled web browser (located in main menu under internet services) or media player (i.e. to view streaming video)
3. Only http communication is actually working. When I try to connect to some server using port number other than 80 it fails.

Am I right?
Or maybe not?? Coz I'm really interested in viewing streaming video on my phone over bluetooth, not gprs.

Has anyone get this stuff working in some app other than webviewer?

Looking forward for some answers
Sorry for bad english :F
Thanx

@ JST

Webviewer currently doesnt support streaming of audio and video. I know it sucks but hopefully will support it soon.

The only problem i have is how can i start Webviewer from the phone and not the Device Exploer! Every time i try to start webviewer from my phone it fails and says "could not connect to server"

The port 80 restriction is not related to the WebViewer application. Sony Ericsson's implementation of J2ME support the MIDP 1.0 profile only and not MIDP 2.0. MIDP 1.0 does allow any traffic on a port other than port 80. So unless SE updates its J2ME implementation (via a firmware upgrade) we cannot use other ports for streaming media.

Note : I am talking here about the T616/T630 firmware only (thats my phone), I have no idea what MIDP profile is support by the K700.

Why cant i start webviewer from my phone? If i start webviewer from my phone i get the error saying "Could not connect to server". However if i start webviewer from the Sony Ericsson Device Exploer i can view all websites! Every site i go to works.
Why?
How can i start webviewer from my phone and view websites?
By the way i have a full registered version of Webviewer and my phone is a Sony Ericsson K700i.

Hey ants - I would like to help you but I don't know how I can. I just don't know why you are unable to start Webviewer from the phone. That works for me - I've never had problems. But I have a T616, I've never seen a K700. So I just don't know how to help you.

Ok here are my settings. I'm using a Sony Ericsson K700i. As I said I cant view any websites if I start Webviewer from my phone. I can only view Websites if I start Webviewer from the Sony Ericsson Device Explore. I have a full registered version of Webviewer.
These are my settings:

Under Connectivity > Data comm. > Data accounts I have created an account called test

It settings are:
APN: "This is blank"

Username: "This is blank"

Password: "This is blank"

Password request: Off (Other option/s are On)

Allow Calls: Automatic (Other option/s are GPRS only)

IP Address: "I have my IP address here. I got it from http://www.whatismyip.com. Do I put my internet IP address here or my network IP address here because I have a computer network in my house that consists of 2 PCs sharing the same cable internet connection)

DNS Address: "This is blank ... "

Authentication: Normal (Other option/s are Secure and None but you can select more than one)

Data compression: Off (Other option/s are On)

Header compr.: Off (Other option/s are On)

Ok on the K700i there are no WAP Options. The K700i's WAP settings are just called Internet Settings. So under Connectivity > Internet Settings > Internet profiles I have created a profile called test.

It settings are:
Connect Using: test

Internet Mode: Http (Other option/s are WAP)

Use Proxy: No (Other option/s are Yes)
If you select Yes then another 3 more options come up.
They are; IP Address, Port Number (default is 8080), Username and Password.

Other Options under Connectivity are:
Bluetooth
Infrared port
Synchronization
Mobile networks

Streaming settings:
Connect Using: I selected test but that wasn't default
Use Proxy: No (If you select Yes 2 more options come up witch are IP Address and Port Number (default is 0)

Setting for Java (Internet profiles > I have selected test but that wasn't default)

and Accessories but that is grayed out.

My Webviewer Settings are:
Enable Images: Ticked
Enable cookies: Ticked
Identify as MSIE: Ticked
Use small fonts: Not ticked
User fewer colors: Not ticked
Enable JavaScript: Ticked
Number of Pages to cache: 1
The advanced setting is Connection port and it is set to 80. The other option is 8080.

Lastly my Bluetooth settings on my Computer: (My device is called K700i and has a passkey enabled. Its address is 00:0e:07:0e:69:15. I am using a Bluetooth USB Adapter)
COM PORTS:
COM4 Outgoing K700i 'Serial Port'
COM5 Incoming K700i
COM6 Outgoing K700i 'Serial Port 2'

Options:
Turn on discovery is unchecked.
Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer is ticked.
Alert me when a new Bluetooth device wants to connect is ticked.
Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area is unchecked.

K700i's Services:
ALL These services are ticked.
Dial-Up Networking (DUN) COM3
Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)
Serial Port (SPP) 'Serial Port' COM4
Serial Port (SPP) 'Serial Port 2' COM6

On my Computer I have Norton Internet Security 2003 and Norton Anti-Virus 2003 but I tried disabling them and it still doesn't work. Under the Device Manager I have enabled serial networking and under the Connection Proxy I have enabled COM4 with a maximum baud rate of 57600.

THAT'S ALL MY SETTINGS.

I really hope you can help me if you can. Try comparing those settings to yours.
Thankyou!

Hey ants i have the same problem with my V800 too. Whenever I open an application with the phone, it wouldnt connect but if I start program using the device explorer then it will connect using my home PC.

I dont know what I am doing wrong but at least I get a chance to feel how it is to use mobile phone to surf net, icq, etc with PC connection... it does feel very very cool but after a little while I asked myself why I am sitting so close to the computer and doing what the computer can do much much better... but i have to admit it is really cool to see what the phone is capable of doing...

dumbdumb thats exactly how i feel. However today i noticed that its not only Webviewer but all internet programs on my phone that don't connect. Today i got BlueInbox (to check my emails) and it doesn't work unless i start it from the Device Explorer. If i start it from the Device Explorer then it works perfectly and i can check my emails fine.
Its very weird. Both Webviewer and BlueInbox work fine when i start them from my phone when im using my Mobile Service Provider's GPRS internet however that costs me $$
I also remember i tried cMessenger and that didnt work when i tried to satrt it from my phone.
So the problem is that internet programs will not connect to my computer even though i have the connection proxy running with COM4 enabled. I can send and receive files fine using my Bluetooth USB Adapter but when i try using an internet program by starting it on my phone it just doesn't work and only works if i start it from the Device Explorer.
Any help would be great.

Thanks jamshedd for the great tutorial !
I have a K700i and the webviewer refuse to work (empty response ?!error).
Can anyone who got this working for the K700i can update the instructions ?
I think the most important steps are #1 and #2 since these settings are a bit different in the K700i. (where should we put the PC IP address? do we need to specify port?)

You need to start it from the device explorer.

@emanuelj: All stpes were followed properly, meaning that the webviewer was activated from the device explorer.

Again, if anyone got it working for the K700i please post your instructions, the important ones are steps #1 and #2
