@boto43 :
The red tape's one of the main reasons I'm against the UK getting more closely involved with Europe. It's nothing xenophobic, I just think that at the moment it's against the UK's interest. And, as the country that invented red tape, we already have plenty of the damn stuff already!

We did have a vote on joining the EEC (as it was then) in about 1973 - but then we were just voting for joining a trading community with it's benefits only I believe - anyone who's a bit older than me and would remember please correct me if I'm wrong!

We didn't vote on EU superstates or closer integration, so it's good we've finally got a chance to vote on it, when the UK government finally decide to tell us when it will be!

Not I'm who count down, but the clock on the http://www.magyarorszag.hu/eu site! (Magyarorszag means Hungary)
And yes, I'm sure I'll be happy with the EU membership next year too! It will be good for the economy, the environment, and for me, becouse I'd like to go to the UK for a year and it will be much easier as an EU citizen!
Anyway 5 days, 21 hors, 50 minutes, 20 secounds left and Hungary will be the member of the EU!

Steve

It's interesting to see how different countries view joining the EU - a lot of people from other countries are really looking forward to joining - compared to the UK where people seem to view it very suspiciously and with scepticism. I guess it depends on the country and it's hopes and aspirations, and that us in the UK have a bit of an 'island' mentality...

Anyways, best of luck to those of you joining in 1 day, 5 hours etc. etc., I hope it brings many benefits to you!

I am not sure if we are looking forward to join to EU or we are affraid of the political and economic act of our governments.
Look at the referends of joining to EU in all new member countries.
I think that referends have been very close for joining to EU in each country. I dont think that ppl are pleased with membership of EU.We can see a lot of problems based on bureaucratic access of EU to our
countries.
Even I can say the may of 1 is the day of the dependence of our countries upon EU and maybe the day which we are loosing our national freedom. but we will see ....
I would be very glad to be wrong today.

I agree with you. It will take a few years. In the 10 countries it would be hard, but then it will be worth the hard work.

20 minutes till join.

Welcome to you all!

I hope it will be beneficial to your countries! I'd say though to stay away from the single currency.... but that's just me!
