What's to over interpret? This clearly means there may be another device coming before the end of the year.
I have no idea what you are saying
Well, there was another rumor that stated if Sony mobile didn't have good performance this year, they may not release anything new for 2020 which is least likely imo.
So either there's another device or no Sony mobile. Take your pick. |

Months ago Max J said the foldable xperia (nautilus design) would be for december/2019 or early/2020.
Sony already made clear they are not giving up.
They cant adopt 5G in the future without cellphones.
I think it is waste of money, those foldable will flop.
Even from Samsung and Huawei.

In the era of 6+" phones, foldables are kind of redundant. Too bulky when folded, plastic screen, the crease etc. But it is innovative, when shortcomings are addressed, they could gain traction.
I rather see Sony do something in the camera area that'll make them the new benchmark for mobile photography.
Under screen front camera is another thing that would make people talk.
A new UI that is designed with 21:9 in mind with better gesture controls could also convince people to switch.
And for tech god's sake, I want them to release a capable midrange with actual midrange price. |

DxO is now giving score for UWA and night performance.
X1 is now the #3, just behind s10 5G and note 10+ 5G.
Night score was 34, while leaders have 59.
Sony should have paid them, because no way any flagship is worse than iphone at night.

Yup Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is at #3
Xperia 1 is 29th.
I'm not against Sony using a folding screen but not now, the tech is not there yet, the fiasco with the Galaxy Fold has shown that. Even Huawaii has delayed their device as well.
I'd rather Sony put their tech expertise into the camera and battery life. Personally do not need no 4k screens or anything uber high resolution, full hd is good enough for me. Anything over 300 ppi is overkill.
Of course design is also important but if Sony jammed in a large sensor 1/2" or bigger with a decent F stop and OIS and EIS, larger bezels or thicker design would not matter. But that's only for me.

X1 has the #3 score of UWA among phones retested so far.
That is what I mean.
300 ppi is too low.
Even on smaller Z series, it is easy to see difference when you play 720p and 1080p videos.
Also we need to considerer the fact mobile oled is pentile.
I have a question. How can a laptop play youtube at 4K when screen is HD?
Even at 1080p I see footage gets better.
I am sure mine is 720p.
Bonus: X5 = 96h gsmarena test ... s10e has 40 mAh less and smaller screen, it scores 83h.

NTT Docomo announced 5G pre service launch date and 5G devices.
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, LG V50, and Sony Mobile unannounced device.
It looks like Sony add Sub6 support to the Sphinx.
docomo said those 3 devices are prototype. but Galaxy S10 and V50 have docomo logo.

I thought docomo would be 5G ready by february 2019.
I just dont understand why that prototype has that weird design.

5G would be great, but Sony could offer the device in both 5G and non-5G versions for areas where 5G isn't ready yet.
I'm sure qualcomm will release the 865 with 5G and without, and since it will be integrated, it should be more efficient than the separate X50 modem that needs to be added to the 855.

The things sony should focus on their next device should be
1. Battery capacity
The Xperia 5 endurance shows us that sonys battery management is the best currently but the battery capacities in their recent devices have become a joke
2. Put bigger sensors and add something exclusive in their cameras
Also they can go for a tof front scanner for face scanning as current devices have ample bezels
3. Weight of the device should be proportionate to the internals like all other manufacturers
Sony devices nowadays are too heavy without any justifications
4.Better cooling solutions for longer sustained performace
I see even the oneplus phones nowadays have better sustained performance than sony devices... Which was not the case few years ago
Regarding the foldable phones... I think sony is not in a position to release a device like that in to the market.
The mobile division is already suffering
They dont want to add salt to their wounds |

I would like to see some stuff too.
But there is a problem.
Apple knows they will sell at least 40 million of each model.
Samsung will sell at least 35 million of S and Note combined.
Huawei knows that P/P Pro and Mate/Mate Pro/Mate Porsche will sell combined for at least 30 million.
They are in position to do the best they can if they want to.
They will keep selling tons even if their phone are worse than other brands.
How many flagship xperia are sold per year?
Do they even reach 1 million units?
I wish I could have a Premium Xperia with BionzX chip instead of software, X1 Extreme instead of just software, a 1/1.5" stacked cmos , 4800 mAh etc...
But with the current numbers, Sony would just lose more money.
We all know japanese companies rarely take risks.
Isocell S5KHMX 108MP has 12,73 mm diagonal.

Anyone from Sony, if they are watching this thread.
See this: https://youtu.be/XxTTI-q7RO8
Deliberate leaks are free PR, use it!
They can't even hype their launch events. This much secrecy is burying their products soon after announcement. |

Sony still hasn’t announced a 5G smartphone. Why?
We showcased a 5G smartphone prototype featuring mmW connectivity at MWC in Barcelona earlier this year. We are fully committed to bringing 5G enabled Xperia to global markets for both Sub-6 GHz and mmWave spectrum and while we can’t comment on future launch dates, we are making great progress and working with numerous partners around the globe for ongoing technical development.

Do you think they would sign deal with more carriers because of 5G?
