The Official Esato's Phone Camera Shootout Competition January 2014: "Capture the moment" |

I appreciate the feedback, and with regards to whether the scene could change, it did, as a flock of birds flew by moments later and someone was about to walk by as I was taking photo, so moments later someone would have been in the frame or as mlife has said, the lighting could have changed, the whole scene kept changing as we walked along. I thought nature was the one thing that did changed constantly, and the photo captured the moment of our beautiful sunday walk

Surely the casting decision on the validity of a photo within a given theme should be cast by the person who created said theme since he/she has the clearest and intended interpretation.

I agree and I think hihihans was right to call into validity cupcake30's shot because that scene is showing no signs that it could change.
If that was the case then any photo would be valid. You could show a picture of the pyramids of Egypt and claim that a camel went racing by in the next moment.
Or you could show a calm blue sea and claim that a whale dived into the air and that would also be valid too. Personally, I don't think it's valid but I think the OP should decide as they know best.

@cupcake. Nice photo but not a scene that will be different a minute later.
I'm afraid it's not valid.
What a stupid thing to suggest, keeping in mind she has taken a picture of a lake which is ever changing and dynamic in its movement. The interpretation for me (this is often where other Esato members struggle to see the artistic interpretations, such as those agreeing with you) she has captured the moment of the calm lake. I was there that day and took the same picture, maybe I should enter mine as you could see a swan in mine and a large tree branch floating by. Not to mention the lots of annoying children who kept getting in the shot. Even 9_destiny says in his instruction that it should involve some kind of movement, which clearly it does as the water never stops moving.
If you think that this does not qualify then neither would his example pictures, especially this one:
Its typically static and with even lesser opportunity for some kind of movement.
This is another typical example of what makes this monthly competition so frustrating when people attempt to take good pictures with artistic interpretations and the intellectually challenged cannot understand it. Remember when you yourself won the OPEN them competition, with a really poor manufactured setup picture of a cigarette tin and lighter ?
Not to mention when cupcake30 won the DAILY ACTIVITIES theme, she then asked me for inspiration, so went for the LOTS OF THEM ! theme, which was won by a picture which had absolutely nothing to do with the LOTS OF THEM! theme..
SERIOUSLY ? LIKE, WTF !?! - what part of that picture is LOTS OF THEM! (????????) The picture wasn't even named LOTS OF (ENTER HOW IT APPLIES HERE)... ! To this day im still reeling in anger about that picture winning a competition which was my idea and had nothing to do with my theme. Unless we strategically pick and choose when to interpret what does qualify - as appears to be the case.
It would appear its one rule for one, another rule for others. Some people are allowed to enter any old trash which is either manufactured with little thought or photographic skill, or simply does not apply to the theme at all.
As cupcake30 is my girlfriend, she only ever came to this site to participate in something I enjoyed and now I find her upset because of the usual negative opinions before voting even commences. She will be lucky to get a vote now since the negative influence of your opinions will be read by the voters and influence their decisions.
What a complete farce this competition has become.

By the way here is my entry, I wasn't going to bother as I find the competition getting predictable but whilst im here I might as well have a shot at it.
EDIT: SRUB THAT - as I find the competition a complete joke I have no intention of entering it this month, or again.

I think the Esato camera phone competition needs a little tidying up and tightnening the rules.

@etaab Please calm down. I mentioned it because of pics like the Rainbow in "Lots of ... " it would be valid this month. There have been comments that the theme should be visible in the photo, there fore I asked.
All I see is a quiet lake and it's hard to believe that a submarine will come above in a minute. If it did she should have capture that. Your photo has the movement with those ducks.

Hi there,
I was afk during the whole weekend. In my opinion cupcake’s picture doesn’t fit into this months theme. It’s too static. There is no single element which is able to move. Lake is calm, there is no single cloud, there are no leafs on trees. I would risk an argument that there is nothing which could change during few moments, even minutes in this picture. I’m sorry cupcake. :/ You’ve got still a few days for another entry.
In my opinion both picutes taken by Sonysta and Sylwester are more dynamic and spontaneous. Fisherman often casts a line and chanes his position/pose. Dreaming girl looks like she’s thinking about something but it could take no longer than moment/few moments. Picture taken by samuele is also dynamic because during the sunset filled with moving clouds there is different scenery in each minute which makes the pictue a very good example of beauty of the moment.
@ Kirankj1724 very good picture
@ etaab nice picture too

I think we will have to agree to disagree on my photo! Thank you to Mlife and Etaab for their comments, obviously everyone has there own interpretation on the themes that are set here, so i'm not sure the competition as a whole is valid, unless some strong guidelines are put in place. I thought the competition was fun, but if people pick and choose what fits and what doesn't, i'm not sure this is for me
Happy photography to you all |
