Also why is there so much Sony hatred here ? When it was actually Sony that helped become popular with its audio and camera contribution. People buy phones for their brilliant multimedia capabilities and that comes from Sony.
As for the Ericsson genes, I never found phones to be well built. All my phones developed some or the other problem within the very first year and so did many of my friends. And nor did most have good call quality(there are exceptions but most had only average to below average call quality) or exceptional signal reception or super fast browsing speeds.

Yes and it was also Sony who made shameful in the camera and audio. Nokia showed how to make proper music phone with N91, N81 and so on, and they too have embarrased in camera quality after Sony become overconfident with the sensor quality they supply to since we all knew how good K750 camera was only to end up having its quality degraded after being branded as Cybershot. But now that walkman and cybershot is almost non-existent phone's audio quality had vastly improved (no thanks to Sony), and the camera quality improves as well but not the best. At least this is in part thanks to Sony but imho can have Omnivision/ Samsung or even Canon which makes better sensors

Yes I agree but you do agree with my main point right ? If it was not for the Walkman/Cybershot boom would have died many years back. |

These days Nokia and Samsung make better phone cameras i am sad to say. Quality has gone down but why oh why is SE still only releasing Cyber shot phones in Japan??

from 2002-2004, T610, K700, P900, P910 have been selling well without any trace of Sony hardware (unles i'm mistaken ) SE was at its peak when they announced the K750/W800 so they simply complemented the success imho. besides SE was the best until the K750 days, a year after K800 saw the loss of Megabass which disappointed me so much, and all walkman phones after W810 had no autofocus except for the utterly degraded slim versions: the W610 and K550 (which lacked Megabass as well) and the forgotten W960. W995 had AF but was a complete downgrade form the already uninspiring C905 image quality. Non technical people bought CS/:w: phones thinking nothing about the crazy stuffs inside but for design/styling and the brand name alone they were great but imho it is during 2005-2006 that SE really shined so much. people like us know much better than those people so i don't think Sony really did so much to help SE from a non-technical person's point of view apart from their logo and the Sony word beside the ericsson which forms the logo. I hate it when people cal Sony.

From Wikipedia
:
"The target date for making a profit from its first year to 2002 was postponed to 2003 to second half of 2003. It failed in its mhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki[....]son_income2003to2009.pngission of becoming the top seller of multimedia handsets and was in fifth-place and struggling in 2005."
Turnaround: Walkman and Cyber-shot

According to Techeye.net
It's now or possibly never for Sony to acquire it's own Mobile business.

this article is shit - sorry
ericsson is not hurting the brand - its the products
if your products are not innovative(i am not talking about dual core processors), then you just don't deserve to be at the top. no brand name can change this. HTC was a no one just 5 years ago, just look at them now.
there is ALWAYS a good time for good products.

That is rubbish!!! These 'experts' musk be drinking some Sony juice! It is the other way round, Ericsson is the one that is getting the short end of the stick in this relationship.
Sony should've been in the industry two decades ago? Really?
Hello, they were in this industry and failed miserably while Ericsson was very successful and innovative with very technologically advanced phones. They were ahead of the industry until that fire in the Philips factory derailed them.
It's either they work this out as SE or come out in the open and tell their consumer what is going whether the rumour is true or not cause this uncertainty is helping no one.
Come to think of it, they did exactly the same thing back in 2009 when the same rumour popped up. They kept quiet about it just like they are doing now.

Sony had not much experience in the mobile industry many years back. They needed Ericsson's knowledge. Whenever a Sony Ericsson phone is talked about nobody ever mentions what Ericsson plays in any of the technology inside. Its all Sony. What would Sony juice taste like i wonder? Like sour grapes?

Being an electronics giant like Sony will make it difficult for a company like Ericsson that specialises in the telecoms sector. So, naturally, Sony will be mentioned ahead of Ericsson cause people recognise the name because they have Sony tv, digital cameras, hi-fis and the most known among the youth, the Playstation brand.
There are many companies that lacked the experience but manage to turn things around, they simply didn't quit. That Sony had the financial muscle makes it even silly that they gave up. Samsung was once in Sony's position, look at them today.
