How about if the voting system gets out. One can learn more from a comment as a star.
I did vote for pics sometimes and most of the times it was between 4 & 8 plus I left a comment.

that does make sense... and maybe instead of a "top photos" list... maybe change it to "most active"... that way if there is a lot of coment activity on the list that photo stays at the top... as soon as people stop "talking" about it others can move up the list....

This will lead to lots of "great" comments but I think people can see through that.
To keep it updated you can make an easy system;
A comment gives a photo 3 points and every day that pic looses 1 point

Maybe the top rated list should be abandoned completely, at least for a while. Then those cheaters will soon lose interest.
Anyways, everybody, the 1-voters and their "victims" are taking this list way too seriously, imo, the main purpose of the photo section is, to show off the photo quality of camera-phones.
I know people, who hardly ever visit Esato, but when they're looking for a new phone, they take a look at Esato's photo section, to check the camera of the phone(s) they're planning to buy. They don't know any of the members and they're not interested in some "winner", only in the pics, taken with the phone(s) they're considering.

True. When my wife wanted a new phone, she looked at photo's taken by the phones of her choice. Not the top 100 list.

Yeah,I guess I took it too seriously too but if I delete my photos that's making the cheaters win. And just cos it's not in the top 100 or people vote it down cos they don't like Nokia phones does not mean it's crap. I noticed there are people who come on just to upload photos & never post in forums

True to a certain extent... but if everyone deleted or atleast more active members starting deleting their photos and there was less and less contribution from active members... maybe, just MAYBE then the mods would do something... that is of course just my opinion.

I noticed this too.... maybe you shouldn't be able to upload photos till you have atleast 10 posts or somthing.... again no idea... just throwing stuff out there....

I am sorry, but i am totally against deleting our pic ( active members ) just because of some maniacs. It would give them power. Instead i am strongly feel that the way voting is carried out, has to be changed. This is what i have suggested last month.
I may sound stupid. But i think the way voting is done has to be changed. Currently for voting, we have to click on the number of star starting from left to right to register our vote. Nice and innovative idea. But think others are not that advance. They might just click on the stars may be on left and get the message that his vote is registered. They might even dont know what rating they have given. So i feel strongly that we should incorporate numbers from 1-10 for voting instead of stars. 
May be one who gives vote is visible to mods. so if one person gives out so many one votes to pics, he can be caught by mods. In addition, mod can act only when he receives any complaint about voting down one's pic. So no-one feel that he or she is being traced by anyone.

too much work for the mods... we want to make it more transparent not more work for the mods to do.... so I think the easiest thing to do would be either only allow you to rate image if you leave a comment or simply take the ratings away... as it has been mentioned before if you are looking for a new phone, you do so via the gallery for that specific phone and not via how many stars a photo from that phone has. Additionally, if there must a list of the "top" photos, as I previously mentioned, why not make it based on a "points" system like hihihans previously mentioned.
no matter what direction it goes, I think it is pretty clear that SOMETHING needs to change with it.

Indeed. Although some feel it's unimportant with whoever is top. I think the fact that there is a voting system in the first place makes it worse cos people are abusing it. Something must change with it
