Radius399, these pictures comparison was made with the beta version of K850i
The review does not mention that its a beta unit. However, even if thats true, I believe we can all agree that the quality of the shots has not improved any since then.
And everyone seems to feel that SE will bring out a new firmware to increase camera quality significantly. But when was the last time SE actually increased camera quality for one of their phones through a firmware update? The last time I can really remember was back in 2005 with the K750i. It seems lately SE is too busy pumping out new handsets to worry about fixing what is broke with their current phones. What i'm trying to say is, it would be awesome for SE to improve the K850i's image quality, but I wouldn't really get my hopes up for that ever happening. |

Raduix, K850 is an improvement over the K800, especially flash shots, due to ISO settings. K800 always had ISO 400.
The colours are more natural. See you own quoted review from m-r which states this.
Plus, the shots are sharper:

Sure, these are not extreme improvements however improvements none the less. Saying there is no improvement is inaccurate.
Also, the K850 usually has an exposure problem when using auto settings. If you decrease exposure eg -0.3 or -0.7, they look much better.

I took three photos today with different camera phones. It was just point and shoot, no adjustments. Mostly this is how people do the shoots when they have a feel to do it. No repeating, just one shot in the same point. Sadly, the one done with N95 8Gb is just 3mpx, I didn't look the settings. Anyway here they are:
K850i:
N82:
N95 8Gb:
Here's one more made with K850i, I just switched off the flash.
Not one of them can be proud of the detail but N82 takes here the lead..
Just plain p&s... Used by 90% of people and in 90% of situations..... |

wow, a new nokia vs se pic no offence, but me seems it will be an endless fight and to read the same points since weeks now, gets a bit boring...
for a certain members circle here is the se the winner, for the other one the nokia. so get the best out of your mobile, be happy with it and thats all. this continualy : look at thie detail and look at that shadow etc its a bit childish...

I'm sorry. You are right. Of course there are some changes made to the K850's camera drivers to tweak the color settings and such a bit. However, overall the improvement coming from a K800 I feel are next to nothing. The extra 2 megapixels of resolution amounts to basically nil as i've pointed out in my previous experiment. The noise reduction was already pretty bad on the K800, but its simply through the roof on the K850. Pixels appear to seep across into each other, and when the lighting isn't the best - everything turns into a detail-less smear due to the overused noise reduction. Colors are still pretty washed out and many shots have that trademark white haze that we are so used to coming from the K800 due to low contrast. |

A prime example of the "detail-less smears" that I described earlier.
And before someone protests, no this image has not been zoomed in or anything. Its a crop from 100% view. And no, the smears isn't due to blurring (though the image is a bit blurred from a long exposure and moving people). The camera has a sharp enough lens to accurately capture fine details like the people's faces. However, the over aggressive noise reduction that the phone uses on the picture once its taken ends up producing this result.

^^^ Than you could agree that fw updates would be capable of reducing the "issues" that you point out?
@boba, yes it is an endless debate.. I bet here will be even more debate once SE and NOKIA introduce 7.2 mpx. Than the people owning the K850i and N82 will argument how better they are compared to new line of 7.2 cam phones |

Kudos to Radiux, very good experiment that shows that the K850i doesn't have a better camera than K810i/K800i.
I'm happy I didn't pay the extra €100 for K850i when I got my K810i. |

GSMarena ran a comprehensive test
http://www.gsmarena.com/grand[....]ixel_shootout-review-206p5.php
The results is tabulated in the following table. If we look at the ALL categories, we can see that as a camphone N82 is better than K850 (i.e. 98 vs 80 points).
If we only look at PHOTO quality (i.e. first 9 categories only), N82 photo is also better than K850 (65 vs 50). This result is very much expected and is consistent with conclusions reached by many other reviews.

thats the stupidest review ive read. if you take one of the k850 pictures and download it on your computer, you'll see it is still on the first firmware (r1ca029) ,,, not only that, half of the pictures they took with the phones when using macro mode were taken from a poster of a flower, not an actual one. If I was taking the pictures of k850i, I would be able to produce better pictures.
oh and what the hell is up with that flash test picture?? the flash didn't even fire and the n95's picture was even brighter...
GSMarena either has a defected k850i thats running on the buggy pre-release version of firmware or they just dont know what they are doing...

K850 got pwn3d yet again in another review and there are still people that have to make threads like these trying to convince themselves or other that the K850 takes better pictures. Sad! |
