ya, i think im gonna make sure that there's gonna be in-store warranty if i decide to get this phone.
now that SE recognized the problem, they better come up w/ a better solution to this.

Probably about a week by now? There aren't any sign's of cracking.
But the keys definitely feel flimsier/lower quality than that of my previous W900; it's much more easier to press down on them and doesn't give as much tactile feedback.
But as it stands, I don't think SE is or has done anything about it, as the SE service centre rep I talked to also mentioned about the W580 being the same phone, and that it would most likely have the same problems too. |

ok my number 2 and number 8 and number 0 key have now broken and when i've contacted SE they have stated to myself that their warranty doesnt cover this as its deemed as my fault not theirs even though i dont use my phone too much like lol...
I'm off to the Citizens Advice Bureau to see what can be done as its v.v.v.stupid!
In the mean time i have bought an N76 which has a much better keypad. |

The problem was not one of design, the design was pretty solid since early prototypes. Problem is with materials used in keyboard keys. You will get a free replacement, don't worry. Rest of the phone is very solid, and I haven't had any problems with wobble when open or closed. It makes quite a nice sound when opening it.. |

So tell me again how I would get a free replacement? Mine haven't cracked yet but I'm just preparing for if it does.
But wow, thats a first, I didn't expect SE to reject your cracked key issue. |

wow.. im also shocked that SE actually rejected the request for it to be fix. now i REALLY gotta consider before buying this phone. cause again, i don't really trust in-store warranty b/c they can say that they cover for the keypad problem just so they can get my business. i have a feeling they'll just argue w/ me if the keypad does crack.
so i HAVE to make sure that SE has recognized this issue and is willing to replace the keypad, no questions asked.
thanks for the update voda. |

i was wondering, if it is possible to "swap" a gold s500i keypad for the black one, because i have seen NONE gold cracks (but then again it might just be saying that the gold one is getting crap sales) |

I highly doubt you can, or at least without voiding your warrenty; but that's what I'm planning on doing, even if my keys don't crack.
As much as I like that brushed metal finished on the front side where the keypad is, I'm probably going to end up painting it silver then giving it a gloss finish; along with the backside of the slider where the camera is so that it matches the keypad and both ends without look a tad outta place.
But I'm doing all this once I'm able to buy seperate parts for the S500 so that my S500 isn't permanently screwed up if I end up messing something up by accident.
~And that's probably your best bet too. If SE won't repair or exchange it for you, and the store won't either, then just keep using it until S500 keypads come out and then just replace it yourself. |

This is obviously a manufacturers flaw with the handset.
I really think should just stick to making candybar's. This is the first non-candybar phone that I really liked the look of, I wouldnt buy one though because the specs are too low, but I thought it is a really nice fashion phone. Its a big shame about the breaking keys.

little update peeps....
I've contacted Citizens advice bureau about this and they have confirmed tha se should at least inspect the phone before making a decision. I am sending them my phone to look at along with all the net reviews that have indicated this problem is wide spread...
i shall let u know the outcome!

I don't know if it's possible to do it in this forum, but why not doing a poll for S500 owners and see how many had broken key(s) and who didn't,just to have a statistic |
