Well I reckon that the only reason for all the hype is because it's Apple branded. If Nokia came out with a phone like this, would news stations around the world even raise an eyebrow?

Apart from the interface (and to some, the looks), there's nothing really to be excited by. I've read/seen countless times on the news, 20-something US girls proclaiming, "OMG, like I can finally have my iPod and a phone together in one! And even better I can access the internet with my phone as well!"

Well I need say no more about the target group. Even an engineer working on the iPhone team said that even if they added 3G/3.5G, their target audience wouldn't know the difference.

Read this with Mr Jobs and get a glance of the features the iPhone will have.

Steve Jobs clearly states that the iPhone will have no Java support.
In his own words “Java’s not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.”

About Flash he says “Well, you might see that.”

Also there is...
No wireless (Bluetooth or Wifi) syncing at all...
No sync with Outlook...
No 3G...
No 3rd party programs...
Not all programs will be able to use the horizontal screen mode...

but the real world versions will probably have 3G based on the connectivity to iTunes.

The same question can ba asked of you, where exactly have you read or heard for definite that the iPhone will have 3G when it's launched in Europe? Or are you guesing as I suspect you are.

English lesson: By using the word "probably" I have entered a caveat, or supposition, and by all accounts a guess. A guess based on the fact that 3G is much more prevalent in Europe and the rest of the world than in the US. I did not say they would for sure, but entered a guess based on the eventual sales in Europe and the rest of the world. We can put this to bed now, right?
End of lesson.

I own an iPod and SE phone, and think they're both awesome.

Really like the look of the iPhone but i'm not sure its memeory capacity is big enough, only 4GB or 8Gb for music, movies and photos... seems quite small especially since my iPod is 30GB.

Combine the two, SE and iPod, reckon that will ever happen?!

Plenty of hype;let's see how this goes.Other phone manufactures are not going to sit around and do nothing but will watch customer reaction very carefully.
As to leaving SE?I would be a fool to do do so.
others have done it - you can to!

Well it looks like a cool gadget but I wouldn't switch to it from my K790.
The battery life looks quite low and it only has a 2 MP camera.

Just hype, that's all it is. Unbelievable that Apple can put out a press release announcing a phone that's "innovative and revolutionary", that isn't going to be available for atleast a year and already all the key technology is available in existing phones, and the media have a field day?

Did even one journalist do their freakin' homework?

The word is "sarcasm"

Amazing state of affairs isn't it? Those waiting the iphone (I won't be) will have even more of a painfull and dissappointing wait than those who waited for the P990

Watching the entire keynote address with the introduction of iPhone.. I'm really impressed. Great UI and innovation.

However, I would be very much interested to see how games can be played on a iPhone, without the use of buttons/keys.

Next, the SIMcard slot seems to be at the top edge of the phone, giving me the thought that the battery may not be removable just like the iPod. I hope that it comes with an ordinary/normal type of phone charger and not just a cradle.

Max, how the hell are you mate? Long time no see. I bet, (a supposition for all concerned ) that the specs will change once the European, and Asian operators start screaming for some of these babies.

Hey sapporobaby, how are you mate, yep haven't been around much lately (no rest for the wicked)

True, much will change between now and then, but "then" would be a better time for the press to crow about it, since right now it's still got a long way to go.

I agree the interface has the potential to be innovative, though I need to see and read a lot more about the interface's apparent innovations before I will see them as anything but hype.

A finger touchscreen (already any touchscreen accepts finger input, and can be easily modified for those with clumsy fingers), is gonna need more innovation than the resizing feature to impress me. I use my XDA mini everyday and it doesn't present any gui or touchscreen inadequacies beyond the simple compromises that always plague small devices (ipod is no exception here, it has it's own deficiencies).

On the technical front, I have no doubt that by the time iphone is available it will have either 3G or wifi (probably 3G). It has to have one or the other or both or it can't be the ground breaker Apple need to grab a significant marketshare early. It also will need more onboard memory by the time it is released, which I also have no doubt Apple will address.
