New firmware for the W950i |

If you bought the W950 solely for it's Walkman capabilities, then maybe you did indeed waste your money. To me, the device is MUCH more than simply a Walkman (and hence the reason why it costs a lot more that a silly iPOD does). No matter though, as my argument was simply that you guys are telling folks that the device has poor "sound quality" when it doesn't. What you guys are mad about is the volume level of the device and that in itself has nothing at all to do with the quality of the sound put out by the device (which is outstanding). I'm sorry that you're not happy with yours. I LOVE mine and would buy it again in a hot second.
Enough said (by me anyway), as I'm not willing to drag this one out into an extended debate. It's just not worth it. Hopefully, SE will someday improve the volume of the device so that you will be happy with it. |

Totally agree with you on every word.
I use my W950 with headphones that have separate amplifiers.
Sennheiser. Cost me 12€. Well worth it. Doubles the Calbelength but the great and loud sound is worth it. |

wow, there must be some pretty substantial differences in the various firmwares because my W950i is very loud and the sound is fantastic...i can't even listen to it at full volume, i have to listen 2 steps under full which is comfortable...and this is coming from a DJ/clubber/avid concert goer who's used to standing in front of loudspeakers...my only gripe about the phone is that it is sluggish and that you cannot listen to just a particular genre of music...also, making playlists is a big hassle on the phone because the menus are so sluggish...and finally, the speaker volume is a little low, it definitely can be brought up a bit - the W850's loudspeaker is a lot louder...other than that, i think the sound quality is on par with an iPod and the volume through the included headset is loud
back to the subject, i also cannot update...i'm also stuck in the endless loop and i've sent SE an email about it...i hope all of you that are also having problem updating are sending SE a heads up that their update service isn't working correctly

@office maven
the sound quality is excellent, its just the volume could be a little louder. If in loud environments, volume can sound very low.

I am from india which is a non EU country but the volume of this sick phone is just sickest. My old phone was W810i and had great sound quality. I just loved the sound quality of w810i, w950i is not even worth 10$. Why does SE devs do this with such a expensive phone, whats the use of 4gb when the walkman player is like a shit. Will have to wait till these SE devs remove some patch for it after which we can be proud to own w950i.
Seunlock sirs please do something and upgrade the loudness of this phone |

the w850i when i had it was much louder then the w950...I also find that its the same on my brothers w850i....
Ill try and do a more detailed comparison though tomorrow. But sound quality is good enough, just volume.

OK, let's put things in an order..
Send everybody 2 things:
1. the volume output: loud/not loud
2. Place of buying the phone
So we'll have a working database of knowledge, knowing what's happenig where.. |

what would be the use of this data?
I got my w950i in australia...I think we usually get same stock as europe
But the w900and w850i, k750 which i had in the past were aussie version, and were much louder. Dont think there would be a limiter in the w950 here....If so, why wasnt it in those phones listed above.
Are we even 100% sure it has a volume limiter?

Volume limiter is like EU emition laws on motorbikes and cars..
They change and they become more strict every year..
I just want to find out if the generic FW is the louder one..which I think it is.. |

i should think it is tranee...is your phone branded? If its simfree unbranded it should be ok....flash it to an asia firmware, like china/hk...My phones from hk have been loud, except p990 and k800....maybe they are just like that standard.....

how do u come to know whether your phone is EU version or no, i live in asia, india and the phone i have bought from india is not loud at all, just 2 mins back i heard my friends w700i, my god the sound is so loud my ears are bursting but after that i heard music on my w950i i was wondering if i can hear anything out of it. There is no clarity of sound neither the sound is loud, wasted money in buying this, repenting now big time.
SEunlock we all here are waiting for a response from you, can you answer our wories please....god bless you. You guys are much better than SE devs. |
