I don't think we should discuss about crime in here. Some of us may get upset. @Brix, thanks for the nice words you said about me in the other tread. R You still using your N70? If yes just don't let Arez find out. He will think you hate SE, and is very important he does not think that way.

@mario2004: The attempt at sarcasm has been noted.
Of course I'm still using my N70-1...never been ashamed to say that I own a Nokia...if you check my previous posts about my choice you would've seen that at the time the N70 was the best bet...I could've waited for the K800 but felt I had found the phone I was looking for, mind you this had been my first Nokia since the 5110 back in the day. Overall it's a good phone.
Here are some of my observations on the N70.
- Compared to the K750 the N70's 2mp camera is a joke...rather call it 1.8mp without AF.
- The S60 OS is slow...the UIQ2 is way faster.
- It's back cover/slide mechanism is flimsy.
- Connectivity is great, Nokia PC Suite deserves points for seamless integration with Outlook and my other applications.
- There's battery life is poor...Ok, then again the K700 wasn't any better at conserving it's battery.
- As many people have mentioned before keypad could've been improved, too many keys and not much to do with them.
So there you have it, an honest assessment of my N70-1. Not too bad a phone, it just could've been so much better.

@ Brix,we still like you, despite your nokia:) lol! it is just a jolly phone. people take the 'what phone do you have' thing way too serious. it comes down to what it can do, and does it suit my needs, and even if it does not, so what. it is a means to communication, not a reflection of who you are...is it?lol!

Nah, mario2004 was just trying to bait me into a mindless debate...for me Nokia and make good phones although I've got an obvious bias but still it does stop me from getting something that I like, at the time it's available.

@ Francois,
Do yourself a favour swaer. Log in, go to mario's profile in his post and from there go and have a look at his other posts, as well as that of mario 2002 etc. in older posts.
Read these and you'll see how much more weight and relevance your post's statement has for our resident Series 60 slave.
You'll also notice how apt the description on the first post on this thread is.
I do agree with you that some people take all the debacles and discussions on this site far too seriously; I mean some people really ought to get out more.
In my signature, you'll notice I've owned most prominent makes (apart from Samsung) and I acknowledge every make and phone's strong and weak points, MOST based on my own personal experiences, which inevitably help mold my viewpoint/s about each specific one.
But as technology advances each year, so the increasing list of must-have features make them so much more than just 'phones.' Increasing digital camera abilities, music players, PDA/organiser, TV soon etc. etc...
Nokia themselves are championing the 'Multimedia Computer' term for their flagship offerings...and how much more pertinent will this be with every year that passes.

Yep, just replied to it...what about the story last year where this guy in East London staged a hijacking, and had his pregnant girlfriend shot in teh stomach...just because he didn't want the baby.
Will post a link to the story later.

And thus the world turns... It's a sick society in which we live, no doubt. I agree with Francois that yes, despite the fact that we do have crime it's lekker here. What is particularly saddening is the fact that we've become tough-skinned; the stats don't depress us as easily as they once did...
On a far lighter note, i'm at the carwash this morning. Just bumped into the owner, who i know from way back. He grew up in one of the poorest black areas, found a job at an Engen carwash, and by being alert and grasping the opportunity he worked himself up to a position where he now owns 2 Engen franchises, as well as some spares shops, supermarkets, etc. And a carwash, for sentimental reasons
What's brilliant is that he has employed every single formerly unemployed member of his family, as well as nearly the entire population from the area where he grew up! Some of those ex-neighbours have kids in my class, and they can't stop speaking about his generosity and compassion. We need more like him...
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious. |

Nice story indeed. Unfortunately is rather the exception then the rule. Did you know that more then 2/3 of all the South African parlament members have/had a police case against them? (Defaulting on maintenance payments, drunk driving, shoplifting, fraud and assault are the 'prefereed' infringements :( Really sick I would say - but that's just my opinion

@mario2004: I'm not the greatest cheerleader for the ANC or parliamentarians for that matter but if you can't say "so and so was convicted of fraud and failing to pay child maintenance" and then post a link to a credible source (hopefully not Crime Expo South Africa) then I can't take your posting seriously.

@ da brixsta,
I recall that EL incident; we discussed it here before, back in Feb earlier this year:

Nice one there wanqsta...I'm using the computer at work which is pretty slow (PentiumII, 64MB RAM, Window95), going in to search for posts is a bit difficult.

No worries.
Yhu, that PC must be the runt of the PC litter at your work!
Went into the local Phones 4U branch yesterday. They are now also stocking the M600i, in both colours, but only on contract at this stage with them. So now it's just The Link that is the last of the big 3 UK cellphone chainstores to get the M600i.
It's really weird that the P990i has become available at nearly the same time as the M600i, even though the M600i was available sim-free from independent UK dealers a few months ago...
Perhaps it may have to do with network testing, settings and branding stuff, which may also explain why CPW got them first, in addition to the fact that they are the biggest chain store of the three and thus possibly enjoying some preferential treatment.
Not sure though, and trying to get a proper answer to a more obscure question from most pushy, ridiculous-targets-driven Phones4U employees can be a headache or just not worth the bother. The amount of cheerleading that these poor souls have to do is quite something; loadsa balloons and ranting outside their local store on Saturday to get more attention, several handing out leaflets either side of the entrance each day, etc.
It's quite funny how they don't bother you too much if you're checking out the PAYG range, but if you're checking out the contract stuff you won't be by yourself for long... they're so predicatable.
It's really quite evident compared to walking into virtually any far more laid-back (and often more knowledgeable) Carphone Warehouse store.

Just about the crime discussion, when i go into it, it is because being negative inspires me more to change than the positive. maybe the reason i can smile after listening to depressing music. it makes me think of the wrong, and what i can do to improve the situation. i am a weird fellow:)

Virgin Mobile UK has now got its TV-specced Lobster 700 in stock, retailing for just under the £200 mark. (approx R2800 with today's higher exchange rate). They're also throwing in £35 of airtime:

There's also the new Motorola 'Motoview' TV handset which was announced today, in the esato news section. Looks a million times better than the Lobster's more oddball aesthetics.

Both phones have modest (by today's standards) 1.3 megapiel cams, although one needs only half a brain cell to realise that this is not the obvious feature that will be 'selling' the phone...
