Have to agree with Rhino, everything and anything is hackable...OK, maybe with the exception of Macintosh computers. For the life of me I don't know why anyone would spend time hacking/altering MXit...maybe some clever nerd who seeks attention/acceptance from high school bullies.
So we've seen all the new offerings from Nokia (otherwise Blokia for SE fiends). The N95 looks mighty impressive but I'll be convinced when it actually works smoothly...for a week. Ok, that's asking too much...let's say a day without crashing. Speaking of which it reminds me to get my fw updated at my nearest Vodacare.

@ brix, for me it is just to be able to change the look of the buttons and maybe the background. they are releasing something that will be able to do it soon, but they are behind that. Like I enjoy having a custom windows setup with the look of my choice, so i like my mxit to look different. I tend to prefer abstract photos and stuff as backgrounds.

That's pretty harsh! Then again, bear in mind they are charging us a monthly subscription to save skins and transfer saved files.... Irrespective of the affordability.... |

Okay, my silly look why I agree with the MXIT charges:
For me the whole skinning thing and all that is to make the program more profitable for the people who made it.(and nicer to use for the end user) Remember, they need servers to process every single mxit chat, and that costs money, and lots.(Considering every stevie wonder on the corner begging has a phone under his blanket, chatting while bringing in the daily alms. Then there is the bandwidth issue...Remember, telcon charges incredible amounts for bandwidth. In some way that has to be covered, and running a competition every now an then will in no way cover that along with all their other expenses. So in a lot of ways I ultimately blame telcon. There is one more problem, and this is also the biggest: the programmers need to eat. They have tried to write a software package to bypass the need for that, but it crashed on compile, and they figured that paying their employees will keep them alive better than any other method.
Lets look at the new charges:
200 moolah for a new skin - R2...that is not much...Do you need it to chat? Not at all! Do you need it to look cool and be the top dog in your classroom? Sure as hell you do!(You really need this: this will make you the coolest thing since ice! If your parents don't buy this for you, they don't love you, that's right, they don't love you=) So in the same way I will pay R180 for a Element shirt and it looks better than a pep shirt, so is it with mxit...other than the fact that you don't go walking around showing everyone your cellphone screen..(partly due to them presenting you with a piece of metal roughly between 20cm to 1.2m in length that has a hole in the front, and pointing that towards you)
The picture sending is also 30-60c a picture. Do you need to do it? No. Could you do it in the past with Mxit? No. You can do it now, but it will cost. If you do not like the costs, do not use it I say. It is still heck cheaper than chatting via Sms and Mms and all that.

@psychonymphe: I concede I may have upset some Mxit fans with my harsh words. Thing is I never quite got the hype over V5.

Ok francois that's all fine and dandy, but to make it worth your while to download a skin, you should be able to save it, right? (You may decide you preferred your old one.) That means a monthly subscription of 500 moola... And R5 is nothing right? But can you see what it'll add up to annually? R120 yearly contribution from the average school kid adds up to something grossly unreasonable; how much are you wanting these guys to eat?!
And mxit isnt nearly user friendly enough to replace sms.

Anyone buying the XBox360 when it finally lands. Just browsed through a leaflet from Incredible Connection and they've got a wide variety of titles to go with the launch. It's a bit expensive at R3700 for the full system and R2700 for the "core system" sans bells and whistles but which can be added at a later stage.
As some of you might know I've got a PS2 but I'm waiting for the dust to settle next year in the battle between Blu-Ray(PS3) and HD-DVD(XBox360) to choose a successor to my black beauty.

No it actually sounded as if you were taking a slam at francois.
The hype over v5 is completely warranted. Consider those to whom mxit is... the axis on which their perculiar worlds balance and turn. V5 is a crucial milestone in the lives of the mxit folk. |

@ psycho, It is all true, but I used to spend twice that a month on communication via sms, so yeah, it is much cheaper. And the skins does not make any difference in the program functionality. The program works as well with it as without it. Besides, someone will have it hacked so soon enough concerning the skins thing. Along with that point, the big thing amongst school kids was to replace the picture files in the jar and have their favourite rapper or whatever in the background. I think it is good that the money side of the app is not focussed on functionality side as it is on aesthetics. I would certainly complain if it was like that. I am stuck with a butterfly in my background right now=)
But another point, everyone complains when mxit is slow, but are not willing to pay to use it. I work in the IT industry, so I have an idea what servers cost. then running it, and the legal side of having to keep 3 months record, (if that has been enforced) and also bandwidth. South Africa is once again the most expensive country to call this year, never mind bandwidth prices.
Mxit is a business venture. Businesses are there to make profit. If anyone has a problem with that, stop putting your money towards that. Mxit compared to telcon and vodacom/mtn/cell c is much cheaper to chat on. If they suck, they will go down. If they do a good job, they will thrive. No-one has tried to take them on. There are international companies that have made similar apps, but your data usage is of the amount that makes the program too expensive. I would love to see a competing app come out, see if anyone can better Mxit.
Okay, other stuff:

My favourite line from this article, which for goodness sake I hope was just written way wrong:
"MTN spokesperson Ntombizodwa Mhangwani said MTN was currently developing an adult verification system which would require consumers to enter their age before material is sent through their phones."
I wonder what kind of Einstein it would take to figure out that just because you are 12, nothing will stop your fingers from going to the 1 and then to the 9 in succession when posed with such a question. Just hope they have a 12 year old hitting puberty doing testing for them....
Relating to us being expensive once again:

@ psycho, thanx for your concern for the "slamming" from brix=)
@ brix, yeah, saw that flier this morning. If you were in the UK you could score one for next to nothing from www.thegumtree.com....you just have to pick it up from the poor mofa who is giving it away due to having to have to fly back here and not having space for it. Dunno if I will get one. I have grown up way too much the last 3-4 years and still enjoy games, but adult responsibilities kick in a bit more often, or at the very least, I got better things to do. I used to be a gamer, always playing games or sleeping. I am so much different now. Can't wait for Fallout 3 though, that I will play.

A day later and more Nokias launched..the 5200 and 5300 (remember those leaked fascia/housing pics from a while back?)seem to be little more than glorified 6111's with a few music player shortcuts on the side of the housing, kinda like the Z and W similarities in a way, I guess.

Oh well, more competition for the lower spec W-series. |

For the first time in my life i saw a real ghost...the good thing was waking up straight afterwards:) but it was unbelievably real. it was about as real as a deja vu experience. in fact i suspect that the deja vu experiences start as light sleep where my mind gets going, sometimes a little abstract like today. it was just so real...
which brings me to the question-who has seen a ghost for real?

@francoislr: I've never seen a ghost but I once watched football game where Luke Chadwick was literally decomposing right in front of the camera...that was scary

LMAO!!! Good one, Brix!
@Francois, on the other hand, i not only believe in the existence of ghosts, i smell the bliksems too. I can't see them, but my nose can detect their particular scent quite easily, much like a cross between sour sweat and Duiwelsdrek, one of those patent medicines which Lennon's manufactured some years ago. Here in the Langkloof there's no shortage of them either. One of Lana's friends can see them. She came out of her bedroom the other day, all in a tizz, highly upset because she saw something in the mirror while she was brushing her hair. I made it as far as the doorway before the smell assailed me. LOL, now if only i can convince one of the ghouls to give up tonight's Lotto numbers!!
